ETTRICK, Va. (Mar. 8, 2019) – The Mercy College baseball team resumes action on Saturday, March 9th when they play at Virginia State for a doubleheader before taking on the Trojans for a single game on Sunday, March 10th.

Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy is coming off a doubleheader split against Le Moyne on Sunday. Senior Kevin Tise tossed six shutout innings and senior Joseph Sadallah hit .750 to lead the Mavericks on the day. The Mavericks are led at the plate by senior Anthony Murphy who is hitting a team-best .421 on the year and leads the ECC with 12 RBI and three home runs. Sadallah, the reigning ECC Player of the Week, is second on the team with a .379 average and leads the ECC in stolen bases with 11 and also has 15 runs scored. Junior John Mooradian is hitting .333 and leads the team with five triples. The pitching staff is led by Tise, this week's ECC Pitcher of the Week, who has a 6.23 ERA in three starts. Junior James Jakuba has a team-best 6.17 ERA and sophomore Jack Kelly has made two starts with a 7.04 ERA in 7.2 innings of work.
Scouting the Trojans
Virginia State has gotten off to a 5-3 start this season after going 26-15-1 last season with two wins over the Mavericks. This season the Trojans have been led at the plate by Jahleel Sewer who is hitting .333 with an RBI. Kevin Russell has a team-high six RBI and is hitting .273. Rashad Stewart is hitting .333 with two RBI and a stolen base. Stewart also leads Virginia State on the mound with 7.0 innings pitched with a 6.43 ERA. Jason Martinez has a team-best 5.79 ERA in 4.2 innings with a team-high six strikeouts.
