DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (May 23, 2019) – The Mercy College athletic department finished 19th in all of Division II in community service for the 2018-19 academic year, with Mercy student-athletes taking part in over 1,500 volunteer hours during the year.
NCAA Team Works, which coordinates community service efforts at NCAA championships, and Helper Helper, a volunteer management and tracking platform, launched the community service competition to recognize student-athletes who give back to their communities. The competition, which ran from September through May, is based on the number of service hours completed and the number of participating student-athletes. Helper Helper tallies the school participation throughout the competition.
The Mavericks during this academic year have taken part in community service activities such as the Veteran's Day Run, the Dobbs Ferry Holiday Hustle, the CODA Walk at Pace University, the Teams Helping Teams initiative, a 9/11 tribute on campus, volunteering at the Abbott House, conducting CODA Awareness games and raising money for cancer research.
