James recorded the first shot on goal of the game in the 10th minute of action, but Saigh made the save to keep the game scoreless. Anthony forced Saigh to make another save following a penalty corner with less than a minute left in the first quarter. Following the save, Organista fed Anthony again and the junior beat Saigh to make it 1-0 with 20 seconds left in the first quarter.
The score remained 1-0 heading into the 23rd minute when Dalli scored, off an assist from Malico, to tie the game up at 1-1. The score stayed tied at 1-1 heading into halftime.
The third quarter saw Viscione make a save in the 43rd minute on a Dalli shot. Neither team would score in the period sending the teams into the fourth quarter tied at 1-1.
Viscione made another stop early in the fourth quarter and freshman Alyssa Sacco (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) later forced Saigh to make a save in the 52nd minute. The game remained tied heading into the final minute of play and overtime looked like a possibility. However, James fired a shot that was stopped by Saigh, but on the rebound the sophomore beat Saigh on the left side to give Mercy a 2-1 lead. Time would run out on the Lions and the Mavericks came away with the road win.
Molloy held a 9-8 edge in shots and an 8-2 edge in penalty corners.
