Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy is coming off a season-opening 19-3 win over American International on Tuesday. The Mavericks are looking to start 2-0 for the eighth time in program history. Mercy is 23-5 in their last 28 home games dating back to the 2017 season and is 8-2 all-time in home openers. Mercy is 4-0 all-time against Georgian Court and were led in their season opener by junior Dominic Scorcia who had a game-high six points on three goals and three assists. Sophomore Jack Gibbons had three goals and two assists and sophomore Brady Kearnan had a goal and four assists in his Mercy debut. Junior Robert LoRicco contributed three goals and an assist and freshmen TJ Heyder and Robert Guglielmo added two goals and two assists. Junior transfer Marty Shargel netted three goals in his debut and senior Antonio Rey dominated in the faceoff circle going 15-for-16 with a career-high ten ground balls. Senior Kyle Gardner led the defense with a team-high three caused turnovers. Sophomore Thomas Umano started the season opener in goal and made two saves in the first half to earn the win. Sophomore Joe Tortorella played the second half in goal and made five saves.
Scouting the Lions
Georgian Court is starting their fifth season as a program and is coming off a 10-8 season which saw them win the CACC Tournament Championship for the second straight year. The Lions were picked to finish first in the CACC Preseason Poll and return several key players from last year's team. Georgian Court is led by the 2019 CACC Player and Goalkeeper of the Year Austin Geissel who went 10-7 with 273 saves, a .639 save percentage and a 9.70 goals-against average. Also returning is last year's CACC Rookie of the Year and First Team All-CACC selection P.J. Saracino who had a team-high 49 points on 28 goals and 21 assists. Tanner Lee also returns after posting 30 goals, 13 assists and 43 points. First Team All-CACC recipient Troy Longley also comes back after recording a team-high 114 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers last season.
