Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy has opened their 2020 season with wins over AIC and Georgian Court and are looking to start 3-0 for the second straight year. The Mavericks earned a 10-7 victory over the Dolphins in the teams' regular season meeting last season on February 17th at Mercy Field. Mercy has been led by ECC Offensive Player of the Week sophomore Brady Kearnan who has a team-high 13 points on seven goals and six assists. Senior Antonio Rey was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week and named to the USILA Division II Team of the Week after going 33-for-40 on faceoffs with a team-high 20 ground balls. Freshman TJ Heyder was tabbed ECC Rookie of the Week after posting four goals and five assists in his first two games as a Maverick. Junior Dominic Scorcia was named to the ECC Honor Roll after recording six goals and five assists in the wins over AIC and Georgian Court. Leading the defense is senior Kyle Gardner who has a team-high four caused turnovers with five ground balls. Sophomore goalies Thomas Umano and Joe Tortorella have combined to go 2-0 with a 5.50 goals-against average with 18 saves and a 62.1 save percentage.
Scouting the Dolphins
Le Moyne began their 2020 season with an 18-6 win over Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday. The Dolphins advanced to the NCAA Tournament Semifinals before falling to eventual champion Merrimack in overtime. Le Moyne has won five National Championships in program history with their last coming in 2016. The Dolphins last lost to a non-conference opponent at home on February 28, 2015 against Lake Erie. Le Moyne was picked to finish first in the Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Poll and were led in their opener by junior Matt Hutchings who had a team-high-tying six points on a team-high five goals and one assist. Junior Riley Larson added four goals and two assists and junior Hans Zimmer had three goals. The defense was led by junior Mike Brandow who had a team-high three caused turnovers and junior Riley Smith played 45 minutes in goal with five saves and five goals allowed to earn the win.
