Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy has won two of their first three games and is coming off a 12-11 loss at No. 2/3 Le Moyne on Saturday. The Mavericks are 4-3 all-time against Lake Erie and last won at home against the Storm on March 24, 2012. Five of the previous seven meetings between the two teams have been decided by two goals or less. The Mavericks are 13-1 in their last 14 home games at Mercy Field and are led by sophomore Brady Kearnan who is a one-time ECC Offensive Player of the Week and leads the team with 10 goals and 16 points. Junior Dominic Scorcia is second on the team with 15 points on nine goals and six assists with seven ground balls. Freshman TJ Heyder is a one-time ECC Rookie of the Week and is third on the team with five goals and six assists. Senior Kyle Gardner has a team-high six caused turnovers with nine ground balls and senior Antonio Rey is 44-for-66 on faceoffs with a team-high 26 ground balls. Sophomore Thomas Umano is a one-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week and is 2-1 in goal with 25 saves and a .581 save percentage.
Scouting the Storm
Lake Erie has opened their 2020 season with three straight close losses. The Storm dropped a 15-14 decision to Frostburg State on Saturday in overtime in their last game. Lake Erie went 4-10 last season and was picked third in the G-MAC Preseason Poll. Senior Matthew Cromie leads the Storm with 13 points on nine goals and four assists with four ground balls. Sophomore Neil Gardner also has a team-high-tying 13 points on a team-high ten goals with three assists. Senior Kyle Barna has five goals, one assist, ten ground balls and five caused turnovers. Sophomore Mike Flury is 35-for-80 on faceoffs with ten ground balls. Sophomore Johnny Wilson III is 0-2 on the season with 25 saves and a .472 save percentage. Junior Lincoln Potter is 0-1 in goal with 13 saves in 53:07 minutes of action.
