Game Preview: No. 8 Men's Lacrosse Hosts RV Bentley on Tuesday

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Mar. 9, 2020) – The No. 8 Mercy College men's lacrosse team resumes action on Tuesday, March 10th when they host RV Bentley University.

Scouting the Mavericks

Mercy has won two games in a row and is coming off a 9-6 win over No. 7 Pace on Saturday. The Mavericks are 3-0 at home and are 15-1 at home over since the start of the 2019 season. Mercy currently ranks No. 9 nationally in scoring defense (7.4) and face-off winning percentage (69%). The Mavericks are also No. 5 nationally in assists per game (11), No. 6 in man-up offense (57.1%) and No. 7 in points per game (26). Junior Dominic Scorcia leads Mercy with 19 goals, 11 assists and 30 points. He also has 11 ground balls and three man-up goals. Scorcia ranks No. 7 nationally in points per game (6.0) and is No. 9 in goals per game (3.8). Sophomore Brady Kearnan is second on the team with 25 points on 15 goals and ten assists and freshman TJ Heyder has six goals and ten assists. Senior Kyle Gardner leads the defense with ten caused turnovers and has 12 ground balls. Senior Antonio Rey has a team-high 43 ground balls and ranks No. 9 nationally in ground balls per game (8.6). He also ranks No. 10 nationally in face-off winning percentage (69.6). Sophomore Thomas Umano is 4-1 in goal with 43 saves, a .606 save percentage and 8.00 goals-against average.

Scouting the Falcons

Bentley has opened their season with back-to-back losses to nationally-ranked teams in Le Moyne and New York Tech. The Falcons dropped a 15-8 decision to the Bears on Saturday. Bentley went 9-5 last season and is receiving votes in the latest USILA Poll. Leading the Falcons offensively is senior Michael Fricke who has a team-high four goals and six points with two ground balls. Senior Matt Brooks also has a team-high six points with three goals and three assists. Junior Kristopher Campbell has five points on two goals and three assists and junior Connor Baughan and senior Michael Haggan both have a team-high five ground balls. Junior Nick Colstad and senior Steve Marino Jr. both lead the defense with three caused turnovers and Haggan is 0-2 in goal with 26 saves and a 45.6 save percentage.
