Men's Lacrosse Alums Ryan MacSpadyen and Luke Baron Sign With Major League Lacrosse Teams

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (May 20, 2020) – Mercy College men's lacrosse alums Ryan MacSpadyen (Toronto, Ontario/Seneca College) and Luke Baron (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) have signed professional contracts with teams from Major League Lacrosse (MLL). MacSpadyen signed with the Philadelphia Barrage and Baron signed with the Chesapeake Bayhawks.

MacSpadyen, a current assistant coach for the men's lacrosse team at Mercy, joins the Barrage after playing for the Georgia Swarm of the National Lacrosse League. The native of Ontario, Canada ended his four-year career as a two-time All-American and currently ranks second in program history in points (239), assists (106) and third in goals (133). In 2019, he was tabbed a First Team All-American and ECC Offensive Player of the Year after leading the team in assists and points. He also was selected to play in the USILA Division I/II Senior All-Star Game

As a junior, MacSpadyen was named Second Team All-American and First Team All-ECC after leading the team in points with 54. During his sophomore campaign, the midfielder was named First Team All-ECC after posting a team-high 60 points on a team-high 30 assists with 30 goals. As a freshman, MacSpadyen was tabbed ECC Rookie of the Year and Third Team All-ECC after leading the team with 43 points.

Baron is a native of Cold Spring Harbor, New York and appeared in 60 games with 10 goals, four assists, 99 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers. As a senior, he was named First Team All-ECC and had seven goals and 24 ground balls. Baron was selected to play and scored in the USILA Division I/II Senior All-Star Game. He recorded two goals including the game-tying goal late in the contest in the ECC Championship win over LIU Post in 2019.

During his junior campaign, Baron was named First Team All-ECAC and Second Team All-ECC. He appeared in 12 games and had one goal, two assists, 15 ground balls and five caused turnovers. As a sophomore, Baron was named Second Team All-ECC and started all 17 games with 46 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. In his freshman season, he appeared in all 15 games and had a goal and an assist with 14 ground balls and four caused turnovers.

MacSpadyen and Baron helped lead the program to the ECC Tournament in all four years on campus and helped lead the Mavericks to a school-record 18 wins in 2019. The duo also helped lead Mercy to their first-ever ECC Regular Season and Tournament Championships and first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance and win.
