Scouting the Mavericks
The Mavericks are coming off a 5-0 loss to No. 4 Assumption on Saturday. Mercy was led by senior Lauren Viscione who made a game-high 15 saves. The Mavericks are currently two games behind STAC for the eighth and final NE10 Tournament spot with three games to play. Mercy is 1-2 all-time against New Haven and Southern New Hampshire. Sophomore Ally Schreck was named NE10 Rookie of the Week on Monday after scoring two goals with two assists against Molloy last Wednesday. Graduate student Nicole Cotton leads the team with five goals and 11 points and Schreck also has 11 points on four goals and three assists. Freshman Kasey Volz is third on the team with eight points by way of two goals and a team-high four assists. Junior Katie Kreider has six points on three goals and junior Alyssa Sacco has six points on two goals and two assists. Sophomore Rachel Palladino and junior Lily Sherry also have goals. Sophomore Kelly Rosenfeld has a goal and three assists and sophomore Rieley Fitzgerald has two assists. Viscione is currently 3-10 in goal with 126 saves and a .746 save percentage in 13 starts. The senior currently ranks third in the NE10 in saves.
The Mavericks are looking to qualify for the NE10 Tournament for the first time in just their second year as members of the conference. Mercy won three NE10 games in their inaugural season as members in 2019 and will look to increase that number in 2021. The Mavericks have been picked 14th in the NE10 Preseason Coaches' Poll but look to prove the coaches wrong. First-year Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola returns Sacco who was named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team in 2019 after leading the team with three goals and three assists for nine points. Sherry also returns after appearing in 16 games in 2019, recording the game-winning goal against Pace. Also coming back is Kreider who scored two goals in 2019, Cotton and senior Savanna James also return after scoring goals in 2019. Senior Briannagh Smith returns after starting in 11 games in 2019 with one assist. Viscione and senior Cydney Wolff are back in goal for the Mavericks. Viscione made 154 saves in 2019 with two shutouts and a .782 save percentage in 16 starts. Also returning from the 2019 team are juniors Christy Falisi and Taylor Durkin. Spinazzola will also rely upon sophomores Kate Ringstad, Rosenfeld, Rory McComb, Ally Schreck, Kirk, Palladino, Kyra Reyes, Fitzgerald, Devlin and freshmen Volz, Jessica Evans and Alexandra Giordano.
Scouting the Chargers
New Haven enters Wednesday's game on a three-game losing streak after opening the season 8-5. All three of the losses have come to nationally-ranked teams. In their last game, the Chargers fell 3-1 to No. 10 Bentley on Saturday. New Haven was picked 9th in the NE10 Coaches' Poll after going 5-13 in 2019 in the program's third year of existence. The Chargers are led by Abby Nixon who has a team-high 13 points on five goals and three assists. Reilly Bialko has 12 points on four goals and four assists and Alexis Rider and Sophie Schreck both have 12 points on five goals and two assists. Julia Battino has a team-high five assists and Keira Integlia is 8-8 in goal with 98 saves, a .797 save percentage and six shutouts.
Scouting the Penmen
Southern New Hampshire will face AIC before traveling to Mercy on Thursday. The Penmen are coming off a 3-1 loss at St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday. Southern N.H. was picked fourth in the NE10 Coaches' Poll after going 17-5 in 2019 and making the NCAA Tournament. Leading Southern N.H. is freshman Annemartine Christis who has a team-high six goals and 14 points. Senior Emily Campbell has a team-high six assists and is second on the team with 12 points. Graduate student Kate Pigsley has started all 14 games in goal and is 3-11 with 98 saves and a .700 save percentage.
