Schreck Scores as Field Hockey Plays at New Haven

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (Oct. 27, 2021) – Despite a goal from sophomore Ally Schreck (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place), the Mercy College field hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to NE10 foe University of New Haven on Wednesday night at DellaCamera Stadium.

The Mavericks (4-11, 3-9 NE10) have dropped two games in a row and are eliminated from NE10 Tournament contention, while the Chargers (9-8, 9-4 NE10) snap a three-game losing streak.

Schreck recorded her team-high-tying fifth goal of the year and now has a team-high 13 points on the year. Junior Alyssa Sacco (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) added her third assist of the season and senior Lauren Viscione (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) made five saves in 53 minutes of action to take the loss.

New Haven was led by Abby Nixon who had two goals and two assists. Keira Integlia made two saves to earn the win.

The Chargers opened the scoring in just the second minute of action when Sophie Schreck scored to give the hosts an early 1-0 lead. Viscione made three saves in the quarter to hold New Haven to just one goal in the period.

It remained 1-0 until the 21st minute when Audrey Larson scored following a rebound to give New Haven a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

The Chargers made it 3-0 in the 36th minute when Nixon scored her first goal. Schreck answered less than a minute later for Mercy when she tapped in a ball from Sacco from the left post to make it 3-1 New Haven. The Chargers headed into the fourth quarter up 3-1.

New Haven scored their final goal in the 48th minute and held off a late Mercy surge to earn the win.

New Haven held a 13-4 edge in shots and an 8-3 edge in penalty corners.

Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola and the Mavericks resume action tomorrow when they host Southern N.H. at 2 p.m.
