DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Dec. 29, 2021) – The Mercy College men's lacrosse team has been ranked No. 5 in the nation in the 2022 Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine Division II Men's Lacrosse Preseason Top 20 Poll.
The No. 5 ranking is the highest preseason ranking in program history. The Mavericks are one of two ECC schools in the top, joining Frostburg who checked in at No. 14. Head Coach Jordan Levine led Mercy to a 9-1 record in 2021, which included the program's second ECC Championship and NCAA Tournament berth. Mercy will look to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year.
Leading the returners is senior Brady Kearnan who was named Preseason First Team All-American by USA Magazine earlier this month. He was a Second Team All-American last year and had a team-high 51 points on a team-high 29 goals and 22 assists. Senior Jack Gibbons was tabbed Preseason Third Team All-American after taking home Second Team All-American honors last year. He ranked third on the team with 33 points on 17 goals and 16 assists.
Graduate student Dominic Scorcia also returns after ranking second on the team with 42 points, 23 goals and 19 assists. He was named All-Region Honorable Mention and Second Team All-ECC in 2021. The defense is led by senior Sean Rigley who was named Preseason Second Team All-American after being a Third Team All-American in 2021. He tied for the team lead in caused turnovers with nine. In goal, the Mavericks will be led by senior Tommy Umano who was named All-Region Honorable Mention after going 9-1 with 79 saves, a .577 save percentage and 6.93 goals-against average.
