Scouting the Mavericks
- The Mavericks are coming off a 12-3 win over RV Adelphi on Sunday. Mercy was led by home runs from juniors Ryan Saltzman and James Dieguez and graduate student Miguel Ortiz Sanchez. Freshman Ryan Rozinski pitched seven innings with no earned runs allowed in his debut to pick up the win.
- Mercy earned their first victory over Adelphi since 2011 on Sunday.
- Mercy was picked to finish in a tie for 3rd in the ECC Preseason Poll. It is the highest ranking in the poll for the Mavericks.
- The Mavericks have started the season 2-0 for the first time since 2014.
- Mercy looks to start 3-0 for the first time since 2009.
- Mercy is 3-5 against Caldwell dating back to 2007. The Mavericks last beat Caldwell on April 1, 2015. The teams last met on April 15, 2015.
- Mercy is looking to make their first ECC Championship since 2010.
- In 2018 and 2019, Mercy won 20+ games in back-to-back seasons for the first time in program history.

- Sophomore Anthony Burgio was named ECC Pitcher of the Week on Monday after tossing seven shutout innings with seven strikeouts in Mercy's season-opening win over Bloomfield on Thursday. Freshman Ryan Rozinski was named to the ECC Honor Roll after throwing seven innings with no earned runs allowed in his collegiate debut to earn the win in Mercy's 12-3 win over Adelphi on Sunday.
- Leading the offense so far for the Mavericks are juniors Ryan Saltzman and Charles Lebron. Saltzman is hitting .571 with one home run, two RBI and two runs scored and Lebron is hitting .500 with a team-high four RBI.
- Graduate student Anthony Murphy is currently 43 hits shy of setting a school record for career hits. He is also eight RBI shy of setting a school record for career RBI. Murphy currently has 168 hits and 116 RBI as a Maverick.
- Mercy is currently ranked No. 1 nationally in hits allowed per nine innings (3.5) and is No. 2 in ERA (0.50).
Scouting the Cougars
- Caldwell was picked fifth in the North Division of the CACC Preseason Poll.
- The Cougars went 0-3 during the 2020 shortened season, falling to Stonehill, New York Tech and Florida Memorial.
- During their last full season in 2019, Caldwell went 15-27 overall and 12-20 in CACC play.
- Caldwell has not had a winning season since 2008 when they went 34-19 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
- In the teams' last meeting on April 15, 2015, Caldwell earned an 8-3 win.
- Leading the returners for Caldwell is graduate student Luis Rullan who hit .571 with two RBI and two doubles during the 2020 shortened season. In 2019, he led the team with a .333 batting average and had one home run and 23 RBI.
- Junior Frank Lehmann also returns after hitting .250 a year ago. In 2019, he started 29 games and hit .301 with 28 hits, nine doubles and 12 RBI.
- The pitching staff is led by sophomore Connor Woods who pitched 4.1 innings as a freshman in 2020 and compiled a 2.08 ERA with four strikeouts. Graduate student Tom Disch appeared in 2.1 innings in 2020 and had a 3.86 ERA. He made seven starts in 2019 and had a 6.71 ERA with 23 strikeouts.
