Kirkland Earns ECC Elite 19 Award for Men's Basketball

WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (Mar. 24, 2021) – Mercy College men's basketball sophomore Garrett Kirkland (Springdale, Md./Bishop McNamara) has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Elite 19 Award recipient for men's basketball, as announced by the conference office today.

The ECC Elite 19 honor is awarded to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average competing in each of the ECC's 19 championships.

Award winners were selected in the sports of men's and women's basketball and women's bowling. Winners were not selected in the sport of men's and women's indoor track & field after the ECC's Championships were canceled this season.

Kirkland has a 3.91 GPA as a Cyber Security major. He appeared in all seven games and averaged 8.3 points per game on 35.1 percent shooting from downtown. Kirkland had a career-high-tying 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting in the Mavericks win over Molloy on February 14th. The guard also had nine points in Mercy's season-ending win over D'Youville on February 27th.

As a Maverick, Kirkland has appeared in 32 games with 252 points, 61 rebounds and 56 made threes.
