Scouting the Mavericks
- Mercy is coming off a 3-2 game one loss to Staten Island on Saturday. The Mavericks came back and won game two against the Dolphins, 6-3.
- Mercy was picked to finish 3rd in the ECC Preseason Poll and senior Hannah Mueller was named ECC Preseason Player of the Year.
- Mercy went 5-5 during the 2020 shortened season and went 24-26 during their last full season in 2019 just missing the ECC Tournament.
- The Mavericks last made the ECC Tournament in 2018 and made the NCAA Tournament in 2017 after winning their first ECC Championship.
- Mercy is looking to start 8-4 for the first time since 2019 and is looking to start 10-4 or better for the first time since 2017 when they started 11-3.
- Mercy is 17-25 against the Knights in their last 42 meetings dating back to 2007. The Mavericks are 31-11 in their last 42 meetings against the Spartans dating back to 2007.
- The Mavericks swept the Spartans in their last meeting in 2019 and Mercy got swept by Queens in their last meeting in 2019.
- Junior Alexis Crawford was named ECC Player of the Week last week and is batting .412 on the year with a team-high 14 hits and eight stolen bases. She also has six runs, three RBI, one double and one triple on the year. Senior Hannah Mueller is batting .476 on the year with four RBI, a team-high eight runs and one stolen base. She was named to the ECC Honor Roll last week.
- Junior Ylannah Bowman has a .409 batting average with a home run, four RBI and five runs scored and senior Alyssa Guzman has a .375 average with eight RBI, a home run and five runs scored.
- Sophomore Sydney Johnston is batting .375 with five RBI, seven runs and three doubles and senior Danielle Burgos is batting .370 with seven runs, three RBI and three stolen bases. Sophomore Samantha Franck has a team-high-tying eight RBI and a team-high two home runs on the year.
- Sophomore Alexi Benson leads the Mavericks in the circle with a 3-1 record in 22 innings. Benson has a 2.86 ERA and a team-high 28 strikeouts. She was named ECC Rookie of the Week last week after earning the win in both of her starts. Senior Jessica Becchetti has a 3.20 ERA in 15.1 innings with 13 strikeouts and is 1-1 on the season. Junior Sabrina Gonzalez earned the win in game two against Staten Island on Saturday and is 1-1 with a 4.90 ERA in 10 innings.
- Junior Catherine Zucker has pitched 13 innings of relief and has a team-best 2.69 with 15 strikeouts. She earned the win in Mercy's game two victory over D'Youville last Friday.
Scouting the Knights
- Queens last played on Saturday and fell 3-0 and 10-2 to St. Thomas Aquinas in Sparkill.
- The Knights were picked in a tie for fifth in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 0-10 last year.
- In their last full season in 2019, Queens went 7-30.
- The Knights have lost three straight games and are 0-2 on the road this season.
- Queens is led at the plate by senior Marisa Sagona who is batting a team-high .474 with a team-high-tying four RBI and a team-high nine hits. She also has four stolen bases and two runs scored. Freshman Alyssa Wilkinson also has a team-high-tying four RBI and is batting .250.
- Junior Noelle Bryggman is hitting .389 with a team-high five runs to go with four stolen bases.
- The pitching staff is led by junior Emma Wimmer who is 1-2 with a 6.16 ERA in 19.1 innings with 10 strikeouts. Freshman Arianna Fracchioni is 0-3 with a 6.37 ERA in 18.2 innings with six strikeouts.
Scouting the Spartans
- St. Thomas Aquinas earned 3-0 and 10-2 victories over Queens on Saturday.
- The Spartans have won six games in a row and are 7-1 at home this year.
- St. Thomas Aquinas was picked second in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 1-9 last year.
- The Spartans went 25-21 during their last full season in 2019, earning a spot in the ECC Tournament.
- Leading St. Thomas Aquinas at the plate is senior Amanda Schweitzer who is batting a team-high .481 with 13 hits, six RBI, a home run and five runs. Senior Melissa Sadler has a team-high 11 RBI with 10 runs and a .333 average.
- Junior Kim Astrologo is hitting .474 with five RBI, three doubles and three runs and sophomore Emilee Mayer has six RBI and a home run.
- ECC Preseason Pitcher of the Year senior Carissa Della Vecchia is hitting .433 with a team-high five home runs and 12 runs scored. She also has eight RBI, four doubles and one triple. Della Vecchia is also 5-0 in the circle with a 1.48 ERA in 33 innings with 61 strikeouts. She has been named ECC Pitcher of the Week twice this season.
- Also contributing in the circle is senior Paige Toothaker who is 3-2 with a 2.77 ERA in 30.1 innings with 19 strikeouts.
