Scouting the Mavericks
- Mercy is coming off a 15-13 win over No. 3 Mercyhurst on Tuesday. The Mavericks were led by senior Dominic Scorcia who scored a game-high six goals, including his 100th career goal.
- Mercy was picked to finish 1st in the ECC Preseason Poll and senior Sean Rigley was tabbed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The Mavericks went 5-1 during the 2020 COVID-19 shortened season. Mercy went 18-2 during their last full season in 2019 and won their first ECC Championship, making the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance with their first win.
- The Mavericks earned their first win over Mercyhurst in program history. The win was Mercy's highest ranked win on the road in program history.
- Mercy is currently ranked No. 4 in the USILA Coaches Poll and No. 3 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine Poll. The Mavericks received a first-place vote in the USILA poll for the first time.
- Mercy has had eight straight winning seasons and have made the ECC Tournament in each of the last five seasons the tournament was held. Mercy is 7-0 in their last seven ECC games. Their last ECC loss came on April 28, 2018 at LIU Post.
- The Mavericks are 4-0 all-time against St. Thomas Aquinas. Mercy last played the Spartans on April 25, 2019, coming away with an 18-7 win. The Mavericks have won three of the previous four meetings by double-digit goals.
- Mercy is looking to start 7-0 for the first time since 2019 and are 29-3 over their last 32 games going back to the start of the 2019 season.
- Scorcia is a two-time ECC Offensive Player of the Week and has a team-high 33 points on the year on 17 goals and 16 assists to go along with 19 ground balls. The senior is a one-time ECC Offensive Player of the Week and became the sixth Maverick to record 100 career goals.
- Junior Brady Kearnan was named to the ECC Honor Roll on Monday and is second on the team with 30 points on 19 goals and 11 assists. He has 12 ground balls and has been named ECC Offensive Player of the Week twice.
- Junior Jack Gibbons and sophomore TJ Heyder have each been named to the ECC Honor Roll once and Heyder was tabbed Rookie of the Week on March 29th. Gibbons is third on the team with 21 points on 10 goals and 11 assists and Heyder has nine goals and three assists. Graduate student Tommy McPartland has 12 points on the year on six goals and six assists and recorded his 100th career goal on March 13th against Georgian Court.
- The defense is led by junior Jack Kipnes who has 17 ground balls and a team-high seven caused turnovers. Freshman Tyler Pjatak, graduate student Bobby Norton and junior Jake Fitzgerald rank second on the team with six caused turnovers. Fitzgerald was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Junior Tommy Umano is 6-0 in goal with 47 saves. Umano currently is No. 3 in Division II in goals against average (6.71) and is No. 10 in save percentage (.580).
- Graduate student Antonio Rey has been named ECC Defensive Player of the Week once, has been named to the USILA Division II Team of the Week twice and has been named to the ECC Honor Roll twice. Rey ranks No. 3 in Division II with a .740 face-off win percentage. He also is fourth nationally in ground balls per game (10.17).
Scouting the Spartans
- St. Thomas Aquinas is coming off a 26-4 loss to Roberts Wesleyan at home on Saturday.
- The Spartans were picked fifth in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 2-4 during the 2020 shortened season.
- St. Thomas Aquinas went 6-8 during their last full season in 2019.
- The Spartans are looking to win their first ECC game since beating UDC on March 23, 2019.
- STAC looks to snap a six-game ECC losing streak and looks to snap a seven-game losing streak overall.
- The Spartans are led offensively by senior Tyler Senatore who has a team-high 19 points on 14 goals and five assists. He also has 17 ground balls and three caused turnovers.
- Sophomore Thomas Chiapperino is second on the team with eight points on six goals and two assists and freshman Peter Johnson has seven points on three goals and four assists.
- Leading the defense is senior Steven Odam who has a team-high eight caused turnovers with seven ground balls. Freshman James Staeckeler has a team-high 23 ground balls and has six caused turnovers.
- Sophomore Joseph Longobardo is 38-101 on face-offs and has 18 ground balls.
- Senior Ryan Guild is 0-5 in goal with 53 saves and a .434 save percentage in five starts.

Mercy resumes action on Saturday, April 24th when they host No. 7 Seton Hill at 2 p.m.
