Scouting the Mavericks
- The Mavericks are coming off 7-4 and 8-2 wins over Queens on Saturday. The sweep was the first doubleheader sweep at Queens since 1989.
- Mercy was picked to finish in a tie for 3rd in the ECC Preseason Poll. It is the highest ranking in the poll for the Mavericks.
- Mercy started the season 2-0 for the first time since 2014.
- Mercy is off to their best 17-game start since 1985.
- Mercy split a doubleheader with Staten Island last year in Dobbs Ferry.
- The Mavericks are off to their best start in ECC play in program history.
- Mercy looks to extend their winning streak to six games. The Mavericks last had a six-game winning streak in March of 2019.
- Mercy is looking to make their first ECC Championship since 2010.

- Junior Austin DeRosa was named ECC Pitcher of the Week and NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week after his no-hitter against D'Youville on April 3rd. Sophomore Anthony Burgio was named ECC Pitcher of the Week and NCBWA East Region Pitcher of the Week on March 15th and was named ECC Rookie of the Week on April 5th. He is currently 4-1 on the year with a 2.40 ERA in 30 innings. Freshman Ryan Rozinski was named to the ECC Honor Roll on March 15th and is 2-1 with a 3.10 ERA in 29 innings. The duo has combined for 62 strikeouts in 59 innings.
- Freshman Gaetano Pennisi has pitched 5.1 innings in four appearances and has a 0.00 ERA with eight strikeouts. Sophomore Kevin Seckler is 1-1 on the mound with a 0.90 ERA and a save in 10 innings pitched. Freshman Max Rank has posted a 0.87 ERA in 10.1 innings pitched with 10 strikeouts.
- Leading the offense so far for the Mavericks is junior Charles Lebron who is batting a team-high .387 with a team-high 24 hits to go along with 16 RBI. He was named to the ECC Honor Roll on April 5th. Graduate student Anthony Murphy was named ECC Player of the Week on April 5th and was named to the ECC Honor Roll this week. He is hitting .327 with a team-high 17 RBI and a team-high three home runs. He set the school record for career RBI in Mercy's win over D'Youville on April 2nd. Murphy recorded his 100th career run in the game one win over Queens on April 17th. The first baseman is also 27 hits of setting a new school record for career hits.
- Graduate student Miguel Ortiz Sanchez was named to the ECC Honor Roll on April 5th and is hitting .299 with 14 RBI to go along with 13 runs and a team-high six doubles. Sophomore Nolan Giblin is hitting .290 and leads the team with 17 runs scored. Sophomore Justin Glennerster was named to the ECC Honor Roll on Monday and is hitting .278 on the year with four doubles and four RBI.
- Mercy is ranked No. 4 nationally in fewest hits allowed per nine innings (6.39) and is No. 10 in ERA (3.46).
Scouting the Dolphins
- Staten Island is coming off 11-7 and 6-2 wins over Lincoln on Saturday.
- The Dolphins were picked sixth in the ECC Preseason Poll.
- CSI went 5-3 during the 2020 shortened season and went 16-22 during their last full season in 2019, earning a spot in the CUNYAC Tournament.
- The Dolphins are 1-3 at home and 2-7 on the road.
- Staten Island is led at the plate by junior Thomas Joyce who has a team-high 13 RBI and is hitting .326 with two home runs, six runs and five doubles. Freshman Thomas Marten is hitting a team-high .389 with nine RBI, six doubles and seven runs scored.
- Junior Louie Mandile has a team-high 15 runs scored and has nine RBI and a team-high-tying two home runs.
- The pitching staff is led by sophomore Steven Collica who has a team-high two saves in 13.2 innings of work with a 3.95 ERA and 13 strikeouts. Senior Salvatore Trancucci IV is 2-0 on the bump with a 2.16 ERA in 8.1 innings with 12 strikeouts.
