Scouting the Mavericks
- Mercy is coming off a 21-4 win over STAC on Tuesday. The Mavericks were led by junior Brady Kearnan who had a game-high seven points on two goals and five assists.
- Mercy was picked to finish 1st in the ECC Preseason Poll and senior Sean Rigley was tabbed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The Mavericks went 5-1 during the 2020 COVID-19 shortened season. Mercy went 18-2 during their last full season in 2019 and won their first ECC Championship, making the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance with their first win.
- Mercy is currently ranked No. 4 in the USILA Coaches Poll and No. 3 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine Poll. The Mavericks received a first-place vote in the USILA poll for the first time.
- Mercy is one of seven teams under consideration for an NCAA Tournament spot, according to the first North Regional Rankings. The top five teams from the North Region will make the NCAA Tournament.
- Mercy has had eight straight winning seasons and have made the ECC Tournament in each of the last five seasons the tournament was held.
- The Mavericks are 2-5 all-time against Seton Hill. The two teams last met in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament on May 8, 2019. Mercy came away with a 15-10 win at Mercy Field.
- Mercy is looking to start 8-0 for the first time since 2019 and are 30-3 over their last 33 games going back to the start of the 2019 season.
- The Mavericks are 19-1 in their last 20 home games, dating back to the start of the 2019 season.
- Senior Dominic Scorcia is a two-time ECC Offensive Player of the Week and ranks second on the team with 35 points on the year on 18 goals and a team-high 17 assists to go along with 20 ground balls. The senior became the sixth Maverick to record 100 career goals at Mercyhurst on April 13th.
- Junior Brady Kearnan was named to the ECC Honor Roll on Monday and leads the team with 37 points on a team-high 21 goals with 16 assists. He has 13 ground balls and has been named ECC Offensive Player of the Week twice.
- Junior Jack Gibbons and sophomore TJ Heyder have each been named to the ECC Honor Roll once and Heyder was tabbed Rookie of the Week on March 29th. Gibbons is third on the team with 24 points on 12 goals and 12 assists and Heyder has 12 goals and four assists. Graduate student Tommy McPartland has 13 points on the year on six goals and seven assists and recorded his 100th career goal on March 13th against Georgian Court.
- The defense is led by junior Jack Kipnes who has 17 ground balls and a team-high-tying seven caused turnovers. Freshman Tyler Pjatak, graduate student Bobby Norton and junior Jake Fitzgerald also have seven caused turnovers. Fitzgerald was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Junior Tommy Umano is 7-0 in goal with 48 saves. Umano currently is No. 3 in Division II in goals against average (6.52) and is No. 10 in save percentage (.578).
- Graduate student Antonio Rey has been named ECC Defensive Player of the Week once, has been named to the USILA Division II Team of the Week twice and has been named to the ECC Honor Roll twice. Rey ranks No. 2 in Division II with a .741 face-off win percentage. He also is seventh nationally in ground balls per game (9.43).
Scouting the Griffins
- Seton Hill is coming off a 12-10 come-from-behind victory over Frostburg State on Wednesday.
- The Griffins were picked second in the Great Midwest Conference Preseason Poll after going 6-0 during the 2020 shortened season.
- Seton Hill went 12-5 during their last full season in 2019 and fell to Mercy in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament.
- The Griffins are ranked No. 7 nationally in the latest USILA poll and No. 5 in the latest NIke/US Lacrosse Magazine poll.
- Seton Hill has made the NCAA Tournament three times since 2013 and is one of seven teams under consideration for an NCAA Tournament spot in the North Regional Rankings.
- Seton Hill leads all of Division II averaging 20.71 goals per game.
- The Griffins lone loss came to Mercyhurst on March 20th by a score of 17-12. Mercy defeated Mercyhurst 15-13 on April 13th.
- The Griffins are led by graduate student Logan Maloni who has a team-high 50 points on a team-high 25 goals and 25 assists. Senior Robert Hofseth ranks second on the team with 21 goals and graduate student Ryan Manbeck is second on the team in points with 32 on 16 goals and 16 assists.
- Sophomore Peyton Gensler ranks fourth on the team with 16 points by way of 12 goals and four assists.
- Leading the defense is senior Andrew Clark who has a team-high 14 caused turnovers with 11 ground balls. Juniors Remy Sell and Jack VanSlooten rank second on the team with eight caused turnovers. Junior Logan Gray leads the Griffins in the face-off X with a .676 face-off win percentage and a team-high 93 ground balls.
- Senior Kevin Mo is 7-1 in goal with 76 saves and a .589 save percentage in eight starts. He was named G-MAC Defensive Player of the Week earlier this week.
