Game Preview: No. 8 Men's Lacrosse Hosts RV Molloy for Senior Day on Thursday

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 27, 2021) – The No. 8 Mercy College men's lacrosse team hosts RV Molloy on Thursday, April 29th at 3 p.m. for Senior Day.

Scouting the Mavericks
  • Mercy is coming off a 12-5 loss to No. 7 Seton Hill on Saturday. Junior Jack Gibbons had a team-high three points on two goals and one assist.
  • Mercy was picked to finish 1st in the ECC Preseason Poll and senior Sean Rigley was tabbed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The Mavericks went 5-1 during the 2020 COVID-19 shortened season. Mercy went 18-2 during their last full season in 2019 and won their first ECC Championship, making the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance with their first win.
  • Mercy is currently ranked No. 8 in the USILA Coaches Poll and No. 4 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine Poll.
  • Mercy is one of seven teams under consideration for an NCAA Tournament spot, according to the first North Regional Rankings. The top five teams from the North Region will make the NCAA Tournament.
  • Mercy has had eight straight winning seasons and have made the ECC Tournament in each of the last five seasons the tournament was held.
  • The Mavericks are 10-1 all-time against Molloy and won the teams' prior meeting on March 17th by a score of 16-7.
  • Mercy is looking to go undefeated in ECC play for the second straight year. The Mavericks are 30-4 over their last 34 games going back to the start of the 2019 season.
  • The Mavericks are 19-2 in their last 21 home games, dating back to the start of the 2019 season. Mercy last lost a home ECC game on April 14, 2018 to NYIT.
  • Senior Dominic Scorcia is a two-time ECC Offensive Player of the Week and ranks second on the team with 36 points on the year on 19 goals and a team-high-tying 17 assists to go along with 21 ground balls. The senior became the sixth Maverick to record 100 career goals at Mercyhurst on April 13th.
  • Junior Brady Kearnan was named to the ECC Honor Roll on Monday and leads the team with 38 points on a team-high 21 goals with 17 assists. He has 15 ground balls and has been named ECC Offensive Player of the Week twice.
  • Junior Jack Gibbons was named to the ECC Honor Roll on Monday and sophomore TJ Heyder has been named to the ECC Honor Roll and Rookie of the Week. Gibbons is third on the team with 27 points on 14 goals and 13 assists and Heyder has 13 goals and four assists. Graduate student Tommy McPartland has 14 points on the year on six goals and eight assists and recorded his 100th career goal on March 13th against Georgian Court.
  • The defense is led by junior Jack Kipnes who has 17 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. Freshman Tyler Pjatak has a team-high eight caused turnovers with 14 ground balls and sophomore Justin Gerdvil has 24 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. Graduate student Bobby Norton and junior Jake Fitzgerald also have seven caused turnovers. Fitzgerald was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week last week. Junior Tommy Umano is 7-1 in goal with 61 saves.
  • Graduate student Antonio Rey has been named ECC Defensive Player of the Week once, has been named to the USILA Division II Team of the Week twice and has been named to the ECC Honor Roll twice. Rey has a 72.3 face-off win percentage and has a team-high 69 ground balls.
Scouting the Lions
  • Molloy last played on April 17th against Walsh and fell 12-9.
  • The Lions were picked fourth in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 1-6 during the shortened season in 2020.
  • Molloy went 7-8 during their last full season in 2019 and last had a winning record in 2018 when they went 9-7.
  • The Lions last qualified for the ECC Tournament in 2018 when they fell in the Semifinals.
  • Molloy is receiving votes in the latest USILA Poll.
  • The Lions are 1-2 on the road this season.
  • Molloy has been led by two-time ECC Rookie of the Week freshman Jason Rebaudo who has a team-high 29 points on 11 goals and a team-high 18 assists. He also has 16 ground balls and six caused turnovers. One-time ECC Offensive Player of the Week freshman Chris Delaney is second on the team with 27 points on a team-high 19 goals with eight assists.
  • Senior Jack Egan is third on the team with 15 points on 12 goals and three assists and sophomore Sean Plasencia has 14 points on nine goals and five assists.
  • Leading the defense is one-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week junior Jordan Arbouet who has a team-high 13 caused turnovers with 12 ground balls. Freshman Denver Tveter has a team-high 24 ground balls with nine caused turnovers. Sophomore Thomas Mauro leads the Lions with 38.1 face-off win percentage (51-134).
  • Freshman Adam Hyman is 3-7 in goal with 118 saves and a .515 save percentage.
