DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 9, 2021) – The Mercy College softball team plays at College of Staten Island in an ECC doubleheader on Saturday, April 10th at 12:30 p.m. The Mavericks conclude the weekend with a doubleheader at University of Bridgeport on Sunday, April 11th at 1 p.m.

Scouting the Mavericks

• Mercy is coming off a 15-5 game one victory over Felician on Thursday. The Mavericks fell in game two, 8-7.
• Mercy was picked to finish 3rd in the ECC Preseason Poll and senior Hannah Mueller was named ECC Preseason Player of the Year.
• Mercy went 5-5 during the 2020 shortened season and went 24-26 during their last full season in 2019 just missing the ECC Tournament.
• The Mavericks last made the ECC Tournament in 2018 and made the NCAA Tournament in 2017 after winning their first ECC Championship.
• Mercy is looking to start 7-3 for the first time since 2018 and 9-3 for the first time since 2017.
• Mercy is 1-0 all-time against Staten Island and is 23-19 against Bridgeport dating back to 2007.
• The Mavericks last swept a doubleheader at Bridgeport in 2016.
• Junior Alexis Crawford was named ECC Player of the Week on Monday and is batting .467 on the year with a team-high 14 hits, six runs and eight stolen bases. She also has three RBI, one double and one triple on the year. Senior Hannah Mueller is batting .533 on the year with three RBI, five runs and one stolen base. She was named to the ECC Honor Roll earlier this week.
• Junior Ylannah Bowman has a .500 batting average with a home run, four RBI and four runs scored and senior Alyssa Guzman has a .471 average with six RBI, a home run and five runs scored.
• Sophomore Sydney Johnston is batting .368 with three RBI, six runs and three doubles and senior Danielle Burgos is batting .350 with six runs, an RBI and three stolen bases. Sophomore Samantha Franck has a team-high eight RBI and two home runs on the year.
• Sophomore Alexi Benson leads the Mavericks in the circle with a 3-0 record in 16 innings. Benson has a 3.50 ERA and a team-high 21 strikeouts. She was named ECC Rookie of the Week on Monday after earning the win in both of her starts last week. Senior Jessica Becchetti has a 3.20 ERA in 15.1 innings with 13 strikeouts and is 1-1 on the season.
• Junior Catherine Zucker has pitched 11 innings of relief and has a team-best 2.55 with 11 strikeouts. She earned the win in Mercy's game two victory over D'Youville last Friday.  

Scouting the Dolphins

• Staten Island is coming off 2-0 and 13-4 losses to Molloy on Tuesday.
• The Dolphins were picked in a tie for fifth in the ECC Preseason Poll.
• Staten Island did not play during the 2020 shortened season. The Dolphins went 18-17 during their last full season in 2019 winning the CUNYAC Championship and advancing to the Division III NCAA Tournament.
• The Dolphins picked up their first-ever ECC wins with 6-0 and 9-4 victories at Queens on April 3rd.
• Staten Island is led at the plate by sophomore Samantha MacPherson who is batting a team-high .474 with four RBI, a home run and a team-high six runs scored. Sophomore Emily Koerick is hitting .333 with four runs and two stolen bases.
• Sophomore Claudia Porcaro also has a team-high four RBI and is batting .286 with two runs and two doubles.
• The pitching staff is led by Koerick who is 1-2 with a 1.52 ERA in 23 innings with 33 strikeouts. Sophomore Jaclyn Kateridge is 1-2 in the circle with a 11.23 ERA in 14.1 innings with three strikeouts.

Scouting the Purple Knights

• Bridgeport will play at D'Youville on Friday before hosting the Mavericks on Sunday. The Purple Knights last played on Saturday on April 3rd when they came away with 9-6 and 4-0 wins over Molloy.
• The Purple Knights were picked first in the ECC Preseason Poll.
• Bridgeport went 8-5 during the 2020 shortened season. The Purple Knights went 33-16 during their last full season in 2019 winning the ECC Championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament.
• The Purple Knights have won two games by one run and needed 13 innings to beat Molloy in game one last Saturday.
• Bridgeport is led by senior Sam Ferreri who is batting a team-high .467 with a team-high seven hits to go along with two runs and an RBI. Senior Elyssa Marmolejo is a one-time ECC Player of the Week this season and is hitting .429 with two runs and two RBI. Sophomore Meg McFarland is hitting .313 with a team-high four runs scored.
• Sophomore Kaite Burawski is a two-time ECC Pitcher of the Week and leads the pitching staff with a 3-0 record and 0.32 ERA in 22 innings. She has 38 strikeouts and has allowed just one run in her three appearances. Sophomore Samantha Schiebe is 1-0 in the circle with a 4.42 ERA in 6.1 innings with four strikeouts.
