Men's Basketball Alum Bryan Griffin Signs First Professional Contract With Salon Vilpas Vikings in Finland

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (July 27, 2021) – Mercy College men's basketball alum Bryan Griffin has signed his first professional basketball contract with the Salon Vilpas Vikings based in Salo, Finland.

The Vikings play in the top-tier professional basketball league in Finland called Korisliiga. The team won its first Korisliiga championship earlier this year. They will be playing in the Basketball Champions League in Greece starting in September.

Griffin joins the Vikings after playing a post-graduate year at Division I Xavier University. Prior to joining Xavier, Griffin had a stellar four-year career for the Mavericks, graduating in 2020. The two-time First Team All-ECC and First Team All-Met selection finished his Mercy career with 1,100 career points, 708 rebounds and 128 blocks in 79 games. He set school records for career rebounds and career blocks and was the NCAA Division II Statistical Champion in Rebounds per Game in 2019-20 with 14.5 rebounds per game.

"I could not be happier for Bryan and his family. Bryan has worked hard on every aspect of his game to put himself in this position. He has been a great role model and ambassador of our program, and I am excited to watch this next chapter of his basketball career," stated Mercy College Men's Basketball Head Coach Michael Maczko.
