Viscione Makes Game-High Nine Saves as Field Hockey Plays at Pace

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 28, 2021) – Despite a game-high nine saves from senior Lauren Viscione (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg), the Mercy College field hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision to NE10 foe Pace University on Tuesday afternoon.

The Mavericks (2-6, 1-4 NE10) fail to build off their win over AIC on Friday, while the Setters (5-4, 3-3 NE10) move over .500 on the year.

Viscione made nine saves to take the loss and freshman Kasey Volz (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) had the Mavericks lone shot.

Pace was led by Francesca Fava, Danielle Merante, Jessica Wolfe and Krista Dietz who all scored. Grace Henderson played the full 60 minutes in goal and did not face a shot on goal to earn the win.

The game remained scoreless for nearly the entire first quarter until Dietz scored to make it 1-0 in the 13th minute of action. The score stayed 1-0 heading into the second quarter.

Viscione made three saves to open the second quarter before Merante scored for the Setters in the 29th minute to send Pace into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

Volz recorded the Mavericks lone shot in the 38th minute but it was blocked. Wolfe scored just under a minute later to give Pace a 3-0 lead.

Fava scored the Setters final goal in the 54th minute to give Pace the 4-0 win.

Pace held a 21-1 edge in shots and a 19-3 edge in penalty corners.

Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday when they host Southern N.H. at 1 p.m.
