DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 5, 2022) – Powered by goals from junior Kayla Camacho (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream) and freshman Emma Best (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale), the No. 15 Mercy College women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over Le Moyne College on Wednesday afternoon at Mercy Field.
The Mavericks (9-1) have won nine games in a row and are 6-0 at home. The Dolphins (4-5-2) fall below .500 with the loss.
Camacho recorded her team-high-tying sixth goal of the season and Best netted her first collegiate goal. Junior Madison Rosa (Dublin, Calif./Dublin) dished out her fourth assist of the season and junior Jennifer Silva (Jurupa Valley, Calif./Jurupa Valley) delivered her first assist of the year. Freshman Kamy Anaya (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) made two saves to earn the shutout win.
Le Moyne was led by Reagan Sames and Marissa Lisikatos who had a shot on goal. Allison Moreau made three saves to take the loss.
The score remained 0-0 until the 28th minute when Camacho headed home a Rosa corner kick to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead. Mercy had more great scoring chances in the 33rd minute, but a Claudia McKail (Santa Clarita, Calif./Canyon) shot was stopped by Moreau and two Camacho shots were stopped by Le Moyne defenders to keep the score 1-0.
Mercy headed into halftime with a 1-0 lead without allowing a shot in the opening half.
Le Moyne had their best scoring chance in the 56th minute, but a Lisikatos shot hit the crossbar and was stopped by Anaya to keep it 1-0.
The Mavericks added an insurance goal in the 61st minute when Silva found Best and the freshman fired a shot into the lower right corner of the net on a breakaway for her first collegiate goal to make it 2-0.
Mercy would not allow a shot on goal for the remainder of the game to earn the 2-0 win.
Mercy held a 14-3 edge in shots and a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. Mercy held a 3-0 edge in corner kicks.
Head Coach Danny Leon Jr. and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, October 8th when they host St. Thomas Aquinas at 2:30 p.m.
