Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy is coming off a 0-0 draw against Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday. Freshman Kamy Anaya made two saves to earn the shutout. Graduate student Nikki Bermudez and freshman Ancksu Dixon were tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll last week. On October 17th, Dixon was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week and junior Kayla Camacho was named to the Honor Roll. On October 11th, Camacho was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week and Silva was tabbed to the Honor Roll. On September 26th, Dixon was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week, freshman Kamy Anaya was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week and graduate student Jessica Hoyt was named to the Honor Roll. Mercy secured their first-ever outright ECC Regular Season Championship on Saturday. The Mavericks are the No. 1 seed in the ECC Championship for the first time. Mercy is making their ninth straight appearance in the ECC Championship and are looking to win their third ECC Championship. The Mavericks previously won the championship in 2014 and 2017. Mercy looks to advance to the Final for the second straight year. The Mavericks are facing Daemen in the Semifinals for the second straight year. Mercy earned a 2-0 win over the Wildcats last season at Mercy Field in the Semifinals. The winner of Wednesday's game will face the winner of Molloy/Roberts Wesleyan in the Final on Saturday, November 5th at a time to be announced. Mercy is ranked No. 20 nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and third in the latest NCAA East Regional Rankings. Bermudez was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week, Dixon was tabbed Rookie of the Week and graduate student Sydney Cooper was named to the Honor Roll on September 6th. Bermudez has nine goals and is third on the team with 23 points on the season. Camacho has a team-high-tying 27 points and a team-high 11 goals with five assists. Dixon also has a team-high-tying 27 points on eight goals and a team-high 11 assists. Graduate student Claudia McKail has two goals and three assists, Hoyt has five goals and Silva has four goals and an assist. Juniors Toni Valadez, Marlene Avalos and Skyler Schwenkler also have goals. Senior Dominque Bono and sophomore Isabella Messina have two goals on the season. Junior Madison Rosa has five assists and a goal and graduate student Sydney Cooper has two goals and three assists on the year. Anaya has been named ECC Defensive Player of the Week twice and is 11-2-1 in goal this season with 39 saves, a .848 save percentage and 0.54 goals-against average. The Mavericks are coming off a season in which they went 12-5-4 and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history. The Mavericks look to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight season and make the ECC Championship for the ninth straight season. Mercy earned a share of the ECC Regular Season Championship and made the ECC Championship Final for the first time since 2017. The Mavericks ended the season receiving votes nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and began the 2022 season receiving votes. Leading the returners for 2021 ECC Coach of the Year Danny Leon Jr. is Cooper who was named ECC Defensive Player of the Year, D2CCA and United Soccer Coaches All-Region and First Team All-ECC after playing a team-high 1,902 minutes in 2021. Mercy also returns their top scorer from last year McKail who had a team-high six goals and 14 points. First Team All-ECC and All-Region selection Bermudez also returns after recording 13 points on five goals and three assists. Camacho also returns after posting four goals and two assists and Bono comes back after scoring four goals. Rosa returns after leading the team in assists in 2021 with six and Avalos returns after having seven points on two goals and three assists. Tyra Anderson, Hoyt and First Team All-ECC selection Schwenkler also return for the Mavericks.
Scouting the Wildcats
Daemen is coming off a 6-0 win over Lincoln on Saturday. The Wildcats enter Wednesday's game on a four-game winning streak. Daemen started their season 0-8-1 but finished the season with a 5-1-1 record over their final seven games. The Wildcats are making their second straight tournament appearance and third overall. Daemen is looking to win their first-ever ECC Championship and advance to their first-ever Final. The Wildcats are led by this week's ECC Offensive Player of the Week sophomore Alyssa Diaz who has a team-high 16 points on a team-high seven goals with two assists. Freshman Kylie Miranto has 11 points on five goals and an assist and senior Faye Panagopoulos has three goals and three assists. Senior Tori DeLappi is 3-7-2 in goal with 57 saves, a .760 save percentage and 1.59 goals-against average in 12 starts.
