DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Feb. 15, 2022) – The Mercy College softball team adds five newcomers, including four freshmen and one transfer to the squad for the 2022 season.
The class consists of:
Fr. Maddie Lula (Milford, CT / Jonathan Law HS) Major: Exercise Science
Fr. Victoria Seppala (Abington, MA / Abington HS) Major: Exercise Science
Fr. Bianca Mesadieu (Palm Bay, FL / Heritage HS) Major: Biology, Pre Med
Fr. Jessica Evans (Canastota, NY / Canastota HS) Major: Communication Sciences & Disorders
So. Shannon Sisco (Cicero, NY / Cicero - North Syracuse HS / Mansfield University) Major: Business Management
"As we look to return to the ECC tournament again this spring, we are excited about the talent that we have brought in for this freshmen class. With the graduation of four starters, one pitcher, two in the the outfield and our All-American honorable mention second baseman, I expect this group to get some early opportunities to show they can contribute. There is room for them to step in and make an immediate impact," Head Coach Mike Fazio said.
Maddie Lula

Coach's Comments: "We are very excited to have Maddie as a Maverick. She is a very athletic, five foot nine inch tall middle, who will add depth anywhere in the infield and even the outfield as she has all the tools to excel wherever we need her. We expect her to contribute significantly this season as a freshman. During the fall, she worked to develop the confidence she needs to be successful here. She has a strong arm, solid glove, good range, and good bat speed, with some power. We anticipate that she can provide some pop in 6 or 7 spot in the lineup this year."
Victoria Seppala

Abington, MA/Abington HS
Coach's Comments: "Vic played travel ball with the Rhode Island Thunder Gold, a very strong travel team in Massachusetts, where she was mostly a SS. She has sure hands, with better than average speed and range. During the fall she had pretty good success at the plate against some tough pitchers. As she develops as a player, we are hopeful that she will contribute both offensively and defensively for us. I anticipate that she could start for us this spring and make an impact in MIF or outfield."
Shannon Sisco

Coach's Comments: "A sophomore transfer from Mansfield University in PA, Shannon's arrival here at Mercy was an unexpected surprise and we are glad to have her. She competes for time every day in the outfield, bringing energy and enthusiasm whenever she steps onto the field. Hitting from the left side, she had some pretty good at bats this fall and we expect her to see significant time along with some of our returning outfielders, in either CF or LF."
Jessica Evans
3B, C
Canastota, NY/Canastota HS
Coach's Comments: "Jess, is a freshmen field hockey player, so she wasn't available to us this fall. We feel she could see time at either corner or behind the dish as she develops as a collegiate softball player. She has a good foundation and we feel that depending on her ability to transition to a college hitter, she could be a solid contributor for us this spring and beyond. She is very coachable and I expect that once she is with us full time in the spring, she will adjust to the college game quickly."
Bianca Mesadieu

Coach's Comments: "Bianca came to us late in the recruiting cycle for 2021. She has only shown us short glimpses of the ability we feel she has, and needs to become consistent offensively and defensively. She saw limited action in the OF during the fall, as she tried to adapt to the jump to from HS to College, but we are optimistic she can make the adjustment to the college game as we begin our workouts in January.
