Game Preview: No. 3/5 Men's Lacrosse Hosts Georgian Court on Tuesday

Scouting the Mavericks

  • Mercy is coming off an 11-8 win over Saint Rose in their season opener on Saturday. The Mavericks were led by graduate student Dominic Scorcia who had a game-high five points on three goals and two assists. Junior PJ Argiros went 18-of-22 on face-offs and had a game-high 13 ground balls. Senior Tommy Umano made a game-high-tying 13 saves.
  • Scorcia was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week and Umano was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Senior Jack Gibbons and Argiros were named to the Honor Roll.
  • Mercy was picked to finish 1st in the ECC Preseason Poll and senior Brady Kearnan was named Co-Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and junior Justin Gerdvil was tabbed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The Mavericks went 9-1 during the 2021 season, winning their second straight ECC Championship and earning their second straight NCAA Tournament berth.
  • Mercy is currently ranked No. 5 in the USILA Coaches Poll and No. 3 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine Poll.
  • Mercy is 33-4 in their last 37 games dating back to the start of the 2019 season. The Mavericks are also 22-2 at home during that stretch.
  • Mercy has had nine straight winning seasons and have made the ECC Tournament in each of the last six seasons the tournament was held.
  • The Mavericks are 6-0 all-time against Georgian Court. The two teams last met on March 13, 2021 with Mercy earning a 17-4 win.
  • Mercy is looking to start 2-0 for the fourth straight season.
  • Head Coach Jordan Levine is just five wins shy of 100 for his career. He currently holds a 95-37 record in 10 seasons as head coach.
  • Scorcia leads the Mavericks with three goals and two assists on the year and is 10 points shy of 200 for his career. Senior Jack Gibbons added a game-high-tying three goals in the win over Saint Rose and had five ground balls.
  • Junior Robert Guglielmo had two goals and an assist and graduate student Matt Eccles had a goal and two assists in his Mercy debut.
  • Kearnan had a team-high 29 goals, 22 assists and 51 points in 2021 and opened the 2022 season with an assist.
  • The defense is led by senior Sean Rigley who had a game-high three caused turnovers in the win over Saint Rose. Rigley was named ECC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year in 2021. Gerdvil had two caused turnovers and three ground balls against the Golden Knights and sophomore Tyler Pjatak added two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Senior Jack Kipnes was named ECC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year prior to the 2020 season.
  • Kearnan, Rigley, Gerdvil, Gibbons, Kipnes and Scorcia all earned Preseason All-American honors from Inside Lacrosse prior to this season.

Scouting the Lions

  • Georgian Court is coming off a 13-4 loss to No. 20 Bentley in their season opener on Saturday. The Lions were led by Tallen Smith who had a team-high two goals.
  • The Lions were picked third in the CACC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • Georgian Court went 8-5 last season, earning the No. 3 seed in the CACC Tournament. The Lions fell to No. 2 seed Wilmington in the Semifinals.
  • The Lions won back-to-back CACC Championships in 2018 and 2019.
  • Smith had a team-high two goals with a ground ball against Bentley. Michael Ventresca had two assists and Daniel Burnham and Joe Zerr also scored a goal.
  • The defense was led by Joe Murphy who had a team-high four caused turnovers against Bentley with a team-high three ground balls. Dakota Wright added two caused turnovers and two ground balls and Ryan Roesch had a caused turnover.
  • Sebastian Farah made the start in goal for the Lions and had 15 saves in 60 minutes of action to take the loss.
