Scouting the Mavericks
· The Mavericks are coming off a 9-2 loss to Adelphi on Tuesday. Mercy was led by freshmen Alfred Hoti and Jaden Caballero who both recorded an RBI.
· Mercy was picked third in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 18-11 last season, qualifying for the ECC Tournament for the first time since 2010. The Mavericks set a school record with 14 ECC wins and had their first winning record overall since 1990.
· Caballero was named ECC Player of the Week on February 21st and is hitting .333 with a team-high 17 hits, eight runs and two home runs to go along with nine RBI in 13 games.
· Senior Jonathan Diforio was named ECC Pitcher of the Week on February 21st and is 0-2 on the mound with a team-best 5.19 ERA in 17.1 innings pitched with eight strikeouts. Freshman Scott Scheppy has pitched a team-high 19.0 innings and has eight strikeouts.
· Graduate student Robert Wootten and senior Nikko Liguori were tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll on February 21st. Wootten has a team-high 10 RBI on the year and is hitting .268 with a team-high-tying two triples. Liguori is third on the team with five RBI and is second on the team with seven runs.
· Junior Justin Glennerster has a home run and three RBI on the year and the reigning ECC Rookie of the Year junior Nolan Giblin is hitting a team-high .341 with four RBI, six runs and 15 hits. Senior James Mattutat is batting .250 on the year and is tied for third on the team with five RBI.
· Junior Anthony Burgio was named Second Team All-ECC last season and has pitched 15.2 innings this season with a team-high 13 strikeouts, a 0-2 record and one save. Junior Kevin Seckler is 2-1 on the bump in 18.2 innings with 13 strikeouts in a team-high five appearances.
· Mercy earned their first win over a ranked team since 2018 after defeating No. 14 Goldey-Beacom on February 20th.
· The Mavericks are hitting .248 as a team and have an 8.18 team ERA through 13 games.
· Mercy enters this weekend's series having won three straight games against the Chargers.
Scouting the Chargers
· New Haven is coming off a 9-8 win in 10 innings over St. Thomas Aquinas on Sunday.
· The Chargers were picked third in the NE10 Southwest Division Coaches' Poll after going 9-10 last season.
· New Haven is ranked sixth in the latest NCBWA East Region Poll.
· The Chargers have been led at the plate by senior Andrew Cain who is hitting a team-high .429 with nine hits, three RBI and five runs scored. Freshman Cole Maucere is hitting .379 with a team-high nine RBI to go along with six runs.
· Junior Robert Taylor is hitting .357 with a team-high 10 runs with three RBI and junior Andrew Bianco has a team-high three home runs.
· The pitching staff is led by freshman Thomas Eletto who has a team-best 0.75 with a 1-1 record in 12.0 innings with 12 strikeouts. Junior Drew Silverman has a 1.69 ERA and a team-high two saves.
