Scouting the Mavericks
· Mercy is coming off an 8-7 loss to defending National Champions No. 1 Le Moyne on Saturday. The Mavericks were led by graduate student Dominic Scorcia who recorded his 200th career point and by senior Brady Kearnan who had two goals and an assist. Sophomore Andrew Calabria added two goals and junior PJ Argiros went 12-of-18 on faceoffs with five ground balls.
· On Monday, sophomore Tyler Pjatak and Argiros were named to the ECC Honor Roll.
· Last week, Pjatak was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week and Scorcia and senior Brady Kearnan were tabbed to the Honor Roll. Kearnan was also named to the USILA Division II Team of the Week after having a team-high 11 points.
· Mercy was picked to finish 1st in the ECC Preseason Poll and Kearnan was named Co-Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and junior Justin Gerdvil was tabbed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The Mavericks went 9-1 during the 2021 season, winning their second straight ECC Championship and earning their second straight NCAA Tournament berth.
· Mercy is currently ranked No. 6 in the USILA Coaches Poll and No. 5 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine Poll.
· Mercy is 35-5 in their last 40 games dating back to the start of the 2019 season. The Mavericks are 11-2 on the road during that stretch.
· Mercy has had nine straight winning seasons and have made the ECC Tournament in each of the last six seasons the tournament was held.
· The Mavericks are 1-0 all-time against Bentley with Mercy earning a 12-11 overtime win over the Falcons on March 10, 2020.
· Head Coach Jordan Levine is just three wins shy of 100 for his career. He currently holds a 97-38 record in 10 seasons as head coach.
· Scorcia has been named ECC Offensive Player of the Week once and is tied for the team lead with 15 points on a team-high 11 goals with four assists. The graduate student became the third Maverick in program history to record 200 career points. Kearnan also has a team-high 15 points on six goals and a team-high nine assists. He is six points shy of 100 as a Maverick.
· Graduate student Matt Eccles is third on the team with 10 points on six goals and four assists. Senior Jack Gibbons has been named to the ECC Honor Roll once this season and has six goals and an assist. Calabria is fourth on the team with six goals and two assists.
· Sophomore Brody Caskenette and junior Robert Guglielmo both have four points on the year on two goals and two assists.
· The defense is led by Pjatak who has a team-high eight caused turnovers with 11 ground balls. Gerdvil is second on the team with five caused turnovers and 14 ground balls. Senior Sean Rigley was named ECC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year in 2021 and has four caused turnovers and five ground balls. Senior Jack Kipnes was named ECC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year prior to the 2020 season and has five caused turnovers.
· Junior PJ Argiros has been named to the ECC Honor Roll twice and leads the team with 29 ground balls and is 47-of-68 on faceoffs this season.
· Senior Tommy Umano is a one-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week and is 3-1 in goal with 36 saves, a .581 save percentage and 7.40 goals-against average in 210:52 minutes of action.
· Kearnan, Rigley, Gerdvil, Gibbons, Kipnes and Scorcia all earned Preseason All-American honors from Inside Lacrosse prior to this season.
Scouting the Falcons
· Bentley is coming off a 17-11 win over St. Michael's on Sunday in their NE10 opener.
· The Falcons were picked fifth in the NE10 Preseason Coaches' Poll after going 6-4 last season. Bentley ended the season ranked No. 18 in the USILA Poll.
· Bentley is currently No. 17 nationally in the USILA Poll and No. 16 in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll.
· The Falcons have been led by one-time NE10 Player of the Week junior Luke Jaber who has a team-high-tying nine points on a team-high eight goals with one assist. Senior Ben Baldasaro also has a team-high nine points on six goals and three assists.
· Senior Ryan Birch has a team-high four assists with two goals and junior Jake Tyska has a team-high 11 ground balls and is 22-of-29 on faceoffs.
· Freshman Alex Parton has a team-high five caused turnovers with nine ground balls and senior Keaton Roarick is 2-0 in goal with 21 saves, a .600 save percentage and 7.28 goals-against average in 115:27 minutes of action.
