Scouting the Mavericks

·        The Mavericks are coming off a 3-2 win and a 6-5 loss to Bloomfield on Friday. Mercy was led by junior Anthony Burgio who pitched a complete game in game one with a career-high 11 strikeouts to earn the win. Junior Nolan Giblin recorded a game-high two RBI in the game one victory.

·        Mercy was picked third in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 18-11 last season, qualifying for the ECC Tournament for the first time since 2010. The Mavericks set a school record with 14 ECC wins and had their first winning record overall since 1990.

·        Freshman Jaden Caballero was named ECC Player of the Week on February 21st and is hitting .357 with a team-high 25 hits, 12 runs, eight stolen bases and two home runs to go along with 10 RBI in 18 games.

·        Senior Jonathan Diforio was named ECC Pitcher of the Week on February 21st and is 0-2 on the mound with a team-best 5.14 ERA in 28 innings pitched with 12 strikeouts. Freshman Scott Scheppy has pitched 26 innings and has 11 strikeouts with a 5.54 ERA.

·        Graduate student Robert Wootten and senior Nikko Liguori were tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll on February 21st. Wootten has a team-high 13 RBI on the year with a team-high-tying two triples. Liguori has five RBI and seven runs.

·        Junior Justin Glennerster has a home run and seven RBI on the year and the reigning ECC Rookie of the Year junior Nolan Giblin is hitting a team-high .361 with 11 RBI, nine runs and 22 hits. Senior James Mattutat is tied for fifth on the team with five RBI.

·        Freshman Alfred Hoti was named ECC Rookie of the Week last week and has four RBI in 12 games.

·        Junior Anthony Burgio was named ECC Pitcher of the Week on Monday and was named Second Team All-ECC last season. He has pitched a team-high 29.2 innings this season with a team-high 29 strikeouts, a 1-3 record and one save. Junior Kevin Seckler is 2-1 on the bump in 18.2 innings with 13 strikeouts in five appearances. Graduate student Kuzari Jocelyn is 1-1 with a 1.35 ERA in 6.2 innings with three strikeouts.

·        Mercy earned their first win over a ranked team since 2018 after defeating No. 14 Goldey-Beacom on February 20th.

·        The Mavericks are hitting .259 as a team and have a 7.27 team ERA through 18 games.

Scouting the Chargers

·        Dominican is coming off a 10-9 win at Molloy on Sunday.

·        The Chargers were picked first in the CACC North Division Coaches' Poll after going 19-15 last season, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament after winning the CACC Championship.

·        Dominican is led by senior Richard Paulino who is batting a team-high .383 with a team-high 13 RBI, 14 runs and 23 hits. Graduate student Bobby Garbuio is hitting .295 with a team-high five home runs to go along with 11 RBI and 13 runs.

·         Sophomore Shane Hewlette has two home runs and nine RBI and redshirt sophomore Ethan Sarmiento is hitting .303 with seven RBI.

·        The pitching staff is led by graduate student Jaden Diaz-Lambert who is 1-0 with a 0.84 ERA in 10.2 innings with 12 strikeouts. Freshman Anthony Leak has pitched a team-high 21.2 innings with 23 strikeouts and a 6.23 ERA. Sophomore Robert Liriano is 1-0 with one save in 11.2 innings of work. He has a 3.86 ERA and 12 strikeouts.

·        Dominican is hitting .252 as a team and has a 7.97 team ERA through 17 games.
