Scouting the Mavericks

·        Mercy is coming off a 4-3 loss at #25 Embry-Riddle last Wednesday. The Mavericks were led by junior Hailey Puglia who had a game-high three hits with an RBI.

·        Mercy was picked fourth in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 17-14 last season, qualifying for the ECC Tournament for the first time since 2018. The Mavericks went 15-9 in ECC play a year ago.

·        On March 7th, sophomore Shannon Sisco, senior Alexis Crawford and freshman Maddie Lula were named to the ECC Honor Roll.

·        Sisco was named ECC Player of the Week, junior Alexi Benson was tabbed Pitcher of the Week, freshman Victoria Seppala was named Rookie of the Week and senior Ariana Ricci was named to the Honor Roll on February 21st.

·        Sisco is hitting a team-high .390 with a team-high-tying eight runs with 16 hits to go along with three RBI. Lula has nine hits, three runs and one RBI and Crawford is hitting .328 with a team-high 22 hits, eight runs and 10 stolen bases. She also has four RBI and two doubles.

·        Junior Samantha Franck has nine hits with five RBI and a home run and Ricci has a team-high eight RBI with three runs scored.

·        Benson is 2-7 in the circle with a 5.15 ERA in 50.1 innings with 38 strikeouts. Senior Sabrina Gonzalez has pitched 30 innings with eight strikeouts in five starts. Junior Angelina Oquendo is 0-2 in the circle with a 4.75 ERA in 17.2 innings with 10 strikeouts.  

·        Crawford, graduate student Danielle Burgos and junior Sydney Johnston were named First Team All-ECC last season.

Scouting the Setters

·        Pace is coming off 8-5 and 8-7 losses to Saint Anselm on Sunday, extending their losing streak to four games.

·        The Setters were picked eighth in the NE10 Preseason Coaches' Poll after going 9-20 in 2021.

·        Pace is led at the plate by senior Zoie Iverson who is batting a team-high .438 with six RBI and a team-high 14 hits. Sophomore Alexandra Tejeda is hitting .316 with a team-high-tying eight RBI and freshman Alexa Borino also has a team-high-tying eight RBI with a team-high nine runs scored.

·        Senior Brittany Walkingstick has a team-high two home runs with three RBI.

·        The pitching staff is led by freshman Gisselle Garcia who is 3-3 in the circle with a 2.23 ERA in 44 innings with 44 strikeouts. Sophomore Anna Acevedo is 1-1 with a 3.40 ERA in 22.2 innings with 18 strikeouts.

Scouting the Purple Knights

·        Bridgeport is coming off a doubleheader split with Molloy on Sunday. The Purple Knights will host Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday before playing at Mercy on Friday.

·        The Purple Knights were picked first in the ECC Preseason Coaches' Poll after going 23-9 last season, sweeping the ECC regular season and tournament championships. Bridgeport has won the last two ECC tournament championships.

·        Leading Bridgeport at the plate is ECC Co-Preseason Player of the Year and one-time ECC Player of the Week senior Kaira Ramon who is batting a team-high .415 with a team-high 21 RBI, three home runs and 27 hits with five doubles and five stolen bases.

·        One-time ECC Rookie of the Week freshman Madison D'Amato is hitting .377 with five RBI and a team-high 24 runs scored. One-time ECC Player of the Week junior Meg McFarland is batting .338 with 12 RBI and 15 runs scored and junior Samantha Schiebe has 15 RBI and three home runs and is hitting .254.

·        ECC Preseason Pitcher of the Year and two-time ECC Pitcher of the Week junior Kaite Burawski leads the pitching staff with an 8-5 record, two saves, a 1.76 ERA and 157 strikeouts in 87.1 innings. Schiebe is 3-4 in the circle with a 5.46 ERA in 33.1 innings with 14 strikeouts.

Scouting the Dolphins

·        Staten Island is coming off a 9-8 loss to Holy Family on Sunday. The Dolphins will host St. Thomas Aquinas on Thursday before playing at Mercy on Sunday.

·        The Dolphins were picked seventh in the ECC Preseason Coaches' Poll after going 5-17 last season.

·        Leading Staten Island at the plate is two-time ECC Rookie of the Week freshman Anissa Acosta who is batting a team-high .458 with a team-high 22 RBI and four home runs with 10 runs scored. Junior Samantha MacPherson is hitting .390 with nine RBI and seven runs scored.

·        Sophomore Elizabeth Moore is batting .357 with five runs and five RBI and freshman Mariah Carcano has a team-high 12 runs scored.

·        The pitching staff is led by Acosta who is 2-3 with a 2.26 ERA in 21.2 innings with 11 strikeouts. Freshman Alexis Miramontes is 2-4 with a 5.82 ERA in 27.2 innings with 15 strikeouts.
