Scouting the Mavericks
· Mercy is coming off an 8-7 win over Wilmington on Saturday. The Mavericks were led by graduate student Dominic Scorcia who had a team-high three goals with one assist. Sophomore Andrew Calabria and senior Jack Gibbons each had two goals and an assist. Sophomore Tyler Pjatak had a game-high three caused turnovers and senior Tommy Umano made 11 saves to earn the win.
· On Monday, Pjatak was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week and Scorcia and senior Brady Kearnan were tabbed to the Honor Roll. Kearnan was also named to the USILA Division II Team of the Week after having a team-high 11 points.
· Mercy was picked to finish 1st in the ECC Preseason Poll and Kearnan was named Co-Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and junior Justin Gerdvil was tabbed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The Mavericks went 9-1 during the 2021 season, winning their second straight ECC Championship and earning their second straight NCAA Tournament berth.
· Mercy is currently ranked No. 5 in the USILA Coaches Poll and No. 3 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine Poll.
· Mercy is 35-4 in their last 39 games dating back to the start of the 2019 season. The Mavericks are 23-2 at home during the stretch.
· Mercy has had nine straight winning seasons and have made the ECC Tournament in each of the last six seasons the tournament was held.
· The Mavericks are 1-4 all-time against Le Moyne with the lone win coming at Mercy Field in 2019. The two teams last met on February 22, 2020 with Le Moyne earning a 12-11 win.
· Mercy is looking to start 4-0 for the second straight season.
· Head Coach Jordan Levine is just three wins shy of 100 for his career. He currently holds a 97-37 record in 10 seasons as head coach.
· The Mavericks are looking to defeat a No. 1 ranked team for the first time in program history.
· Scorcia leads the Mavericks with 14 points on a team-high 10 goals to go along with four assists. The graduate student is one point shy of 200 for his career. Kearnan is second on the team with 12 points on four goals and a team-high eight assists. He is nine points shy of 100 as a Maverick.
· Graduate student Matt Eccles is third on the team with seven points on five goals and two assists. Senior Jack Gibbons has five goals and an assist and Calabria has four goals and two assists.
· Sophomore Brody Caskenette and junior Robert Guglielmo both have four points on the year on two goals and two assists.
· The defense is led by Pjatak who has a team-high seven caused turnovers with six ground balls. Gerdvil is second on the team with four caused turnovers and 12 ground balls. Senior Sean Rigley was named ECC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year in 2021 and has three caused turnovers and five ground balls. Senior Jack Kipnes was named ECC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year prior to the 2020 season and has three caused turnovers.
· Junior PJ Argiros leads the team with 24 ground balls and is 35-of-50 on faceoffs this season.
· Umano is 3-0 in goal with 26 saves, a .591 save percentage and 7.16 goals-against average in 150:52 minutes of action.
· Kearnan, Rigley, Gerdvil, Gibbons, Kipnes and Scorcia all earned Preseason All-American honors from Inside Lacrosse prior to this season.
Scouting the Dolphins
· Le Moyne is coming off a 10-9 win over nationally-ranked Mercyhurst on Saturday.
· The Dolphins were picked first in the NE10 Preseason Coaches' Poll after winning their sixth NCAA Championship and 15th NE10 Title after going 15-0 last season.
· Le Moyne has won 21 straight games dating back to the start of the 2020 season. The Dolphins last loss came to Merrimack in the NCAA Tournament Semifinals on May 18, 2019.
· The Dolphins last loss to a current Division II school came against Mercy on February 17, 2019.
· Le Moyne is ranked No. 1 in both the USILA Poll and Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll.
· The Dolphins are led by graduate student Ben McCreary who was named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List last month. He has five goals and one assist on the year. He was also named USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Player of the Year and Midfielder of the Year.
· USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Attackman of the Year senior Carter Collins has a team-high nine points on a team-high six goals and three assists. Seniors Zach Pierce and one-time NE10 Player of the Week Kevin Sheehan both have five points on the year.
· The defense is led by USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Defenseman of the Year senior Nate Arnold who has a team-high three caused turnovers in two games.
· One-time NE10 Defensive Player of the Week senior Sam Kury leads Le Moyne with 15 ground balls and is 30-of-50 on faceoffs.
· One-time NE10 Goalkeeper of the Year senior Frank Delia is 2-0 in goal with 25 saves, a .556 save percentage and 10.00 goals-against average.
