Game Preview: Softball Takes on D'Youville and Molloy This Week

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 12, 2022) – The Mercy College softball team hosts D'Youville University on Friday, April 15th at 1 p.m. and hosts Molloy College for Senior Day on Saturday, April 16th at 1 p.m.

Scouting the Mavericks

·        Mercy is coming off a 7-3 win and 7-0 loss at St. Thomas Aquinas on Sunday. The Mavericks were led by junior Sydney Johnston who had a team-high three RBI on the day.

·        Mercy was picked fourth in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 17-14 last season, qualifying for the ECC Tournament for the first time since 2018. The Mavericks went 15-9 in ECC play a year ago.

·        Junior Samantha Franck was named to the ECC Honor Roll on Monday after hitting a team-high .444 with five RBI in six games last week.

·        Last week, Johnston was named to the ECC Honor Roll.

·        On March 7th, sophomore Shannon Sisco, senior Alexis Crawford and freshman Maddie Lula were named to the ECC Honor Roll.

·        Sisco was named ECC Player of the Week, junior Alexi Benson was tabbed Pitcher of the Week, freshman Victoria Seppala was named Rookie of the Week and senior Ariana Ricci was named to the Honor Roll on February 21st.

·        Sisco is hitting a team-high .384 with a team-high 21 runs with 33 hits to go along with eight RBI. Lula has 19 hits, eight runs, two home runs and seven RBI and Crawford is hitting .321 with a team-high 36 hits and 16 stolen bases. She also has 18 runs, eight RBI and three doubles.

·        Junior Samantha Franck has 26 hits with a team-high 15 RBI, six doubles and two home runs and Ricci has 12 RBI with 11 runs scored.

·        Benson is 5-10 in the circle with a 3.45 ERA in 97.1 innings with 85 strikeouts. Senior Sabrina Gonzalez has pitched 57.2 innings with 26 strikeouts and is 1-9 with a 5.95 ERA in 10 starts. Junior Angelina Oquendo is 0-3 in the circle with a 4.87 ERA in 27.1 innings with 13 strikeouts.  

·        Crawford, graduate student Danielle Burgos and junior Sydney Johnston were named First Team All-ECC last season.

·        The Mavericks are looking to improve to 6-0 all-time against D'Youville.

·        Mercy is looking to sweep Molloy at home for the third straight time.

Scouting the Saints

·        D'Youville is coming off a 5-1 win and 7-5 loss to Staten Island on Sunday.

·        The Saints were picked fifth in the ECC Preseason Coaches' Poll after going 16-19 last season.

·        D'Youville is led by senior Maddy Pepke who is batting a blistering .471 with a team-high 41 hits, 34 runs and 13 stolen bases. She also has nine RBI. One-time ECC Player of the Week junior Hannah Bardeen has a team-high 25 RBI and is hitting .417 with 14 runs.

·        Senior Carly Milleville has 15 RBI and a .280 average and senior Mikaela Milleville has 14 RBI, 18 runs and a .273 average.

·        One-time ECC Pitcher of the Week freshman Sarah Parzych leads the pitching staff with a 7-3 record, 1.57 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 67 innings. Sophomore Lauren Booth has a 1.76 ERA, 6-3 record and 47 strikeouts in 63.2 innings. Freshman Cassie Crerar has made six starts and has a 5.75 ERA, 3-4 record and 20 strikeouts in 31.2 innings.

Scouting the Lions

·        Molloy is coming off 13-1 and 10-2 victories over Felician on Sunday. The Lions will face STAC on Tuesday and Pace on Wednesday before playing at Mercy on Saturday.

·        The Lions were picked second in the ECC Preseason Coaches' Poll after going 29-16 last season, earning an at-large berth into the NCAA Championship.

·        Molloy is led by junior Steph Conrade who is batting a team-high .410 with 20 runs, 32 hits and 15 stolen bases. ECC Co-Preseason Player of the Year sophomore Chrissie Huhn is batting .387 with seven RBI and 17 runs.

·        One-time ECC Player and Pitcher of the Week senior Courtney Greene is hitting .322 with a team-high 20 RBI and six home runs. Greene is also 9-7 in the circle with a 3.68 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 102.2 innings.

·        Senior Amanda King is 5-9 with a 4.74 ERA in 82.2 innings with 45 strikeouts.

Next Game

Mercy resumes action on Tuesday, April 19th when they host STAC at 2:30 p.m.
