Scouting the Mavericks
· Mercy is coming off a 21-10 win over UDC on Saturday. The Mavericks were led by graduate student Dominic Scorcia who had a game-high-tying four goals.
· On Monday, Scorcia was named to the ECC Honor Roll.
· Last week, senior Jake Fitzgerald was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week and senior Brady Kearnan, Shargel and junior Mustapha Daffeh were tabbed to the Honor Roll.
· On March 28th, Kearnan was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week and juniors TJ Heyder and Justin Gerdvil were tabbed to the Honor Roll. Kearnan was also named to the USILA Division II Team of the Week on Tuesday.
· On March 21st, senior Tommy Umano was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time.
· On March 14th, senior Jack Kipnes was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week and Scorcia was named to the Honor Roll. Kipnes was also tabbed to the USILA Division II Team of the Week.
· On March 7th, sophomore Tyler Pjatak and junior PJ Argiros were named to the ECC Honor Roll.
· Pjatak was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week and Scorcia and senior Brady Kearnan were tabbed to the Honor Roll on February 28th. Kearnan was also named to the USILA Division II Team of the Week after having a team-high 11 points.
· Mercy was picked to finish 1st in the ECC Preseason Poll and Kearnan was named Co-Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and Gerdvil was tabbed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The Mavericks went 9-1 during the 2021 season, winning their second straight ECC Championship and earning their second straight NCAA Tournament berth.
· Mercy is currently ranked No. 5 in the USILA Coaches Poll and No. 3 in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll.
· Mercy is 41-5 in their last 46 games dating back to the start of the 2019 season.
· Mercy has had nine straight winning seasons and have made the ECC Tournament in each of the last six seasons the tournament was held.
· Tuesday's meeting is the first between the two schools.
· Head Coach Jordan Levine recorded his 100th career win in the victory over Molloy on March 26th. He currently holds a 103-38 record in 10 seasons as head coach.
· Scorcia has been named ECC Offensive Player of the Week once and has a team-high 42 points on a team-high 30 goals with 12 assists. The graduate student became the third Maverick in program history to record 200 career points against Le Moyne on March 5th. Kearnan is second on the team with 41 points on 23 goals and a team-high 18 assists. He recorded his 100th career point as a Maverick in the win over Seton Hill.
· Graduate student Matt Eccles is fifth on the team with 17 points on 10 goals and seven assists. Senior Jack Gibbons has been named to the ECC Honor Roll once this season and has 15 goals and nine assists. Sophomore Andrew Calabria is sixth on the team with 16 points on 11 goals and five assists. Heyder is fourth on the team with 18 points by way of 10 goals and eight assists.
· Sophomore Brody Caskenette has 12 points on seven goals and five assists and junior Robert Guglielmo has four goals and seven assists.
· The defense is led by Pjatak who has a team-high 13 caused turnovers with 26 ground balls. Gerdvil is third on the team with 10 caused turnovers and 25 ground balls. Senior Sean Rigley was named ECC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year in 2021 and has eight caused turnovers and 10 ground balls. Kipnes was named ECC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year prior to the 2020 season and is third on the team with 10 caused turnovers. Fitzgerald is second on the team with 11 caused turnovers.
· Argiros has been named to the ECC Honor Roll twice and leads the team with 50 ground balls and is 90-135 (.667) on faceoffs this season. Sophomore Jason Kuehner is 38-for-58 (.655) on faceoffs with 17 ground balls.
· Senior Tommy Umano is a two-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week and is 9-1 in goal with 72 saves, a .600 save percentage and 7.08 goals-against average in 406:56 minutes of action. The senior recorded his 200th career save in the win over Seton Hill on March 20th.
· Kearnan, Rigley, Gerdvil, Gibbons, Kipnes and Scorcia all earned Preseason All-American honors from Inside Lacrosse prior to this season.
Scouting the Panthers
· Adelphi is coming off a 17-7 win over Franklin Pierce on Saturday.
· The Panthers were picked first in the NE10 Preseason Coaches' Poll after going 7-3 last season, losing to Le Moyne in the NE10 Championship Semifinals.
· Adelphi last made the NCAA Tournament in 2019 when they went 16-3 and fell 14-12 to Merrimack in the first round.
· The Panthers are ranked No. 4 nationally in the USILA Poll and No. 5 in the latest Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll.
· The Panthers are led by sophomore Jason Rebaudo who has a team-high 34 points on 21 goals and a team-high 13 assists. Senior Joseph Duchnowski has 30 points on a team-high 22 goals with eight assists and senior Kyle Steinbach has 21 goals and seven assists.
· Senior Sean McGovern has a team-high 16 caused turnovers and senior Nick Paris has 11 caused turnovers.
· Senior Edward Perlstein has a team-high 61 ground balls and is 88-for-128 on faceoffs and senior Brian Hoerter has 59 ground balls and is 80-for-128 on faceoffs.
· Sophomore Dylan Renner is 11-0 in goal with 101 saves, a .587 save percentage and 7.28 goals-against average.
