Scouting the Mavericks
· The Mavericks are coming off a 15-7 loss to Pace on Wednesday. Mercy was led by graduate student Robert Wootten who had a game-high-tying three RBI.
· Mercy was picked third in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 18-11 last season, qualifying for the ECC Tournament for the first time since 2010. The Mavericks set a school record with 14 ECC wins and had their first winning record overall since 1990.
· The Mavericks are currently in third place in the ECC standings and sit four games ahead of fifth-place Bridgeport with six conference games left to play.
· Freshman Jaden Caballero was named ECC Rookie of the Week on March 28th and ECC Player of the Week on February 21st and is hitting .351 with 52 hits to go along with three home runs and 23 RBI. He also has 27 runs and a team-high 17 stolen bases and 11 doubles in 38 games.
· Senior Jonathan Diforio was named ECC Pitcher of the Week on February 21st and has been named to the ECC Honor Roll twice. He is 4-3 on the mound with a 4.85 ERA in 65 innings pitched with 45 strikeouts. Freshman Scott Scheppy has pitched 56.1 innings and has 30 strikeouts with a team-best 4.63 ERA. He picked up his first collegiate win in the game one win over Lincoln on April 16th.
· Wootten was named to the ECC Honor Roll last week and Wootten and senior Nikko Liguori were tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll on February 21st. Wootten has 25 RBI and 22 runs scored on the year with a team-high three triples. Liguori has 10 RBI, 15 runs and is batting .295 on the year.
· Junior Justin Glennerster has a home run and 16 RBI on the year and the reigning ECC Rookie of the Year junior Nolan Giblin is hitting a team-high .391 with a team-high 29 RBI, 29 runs, 52 hits and five home runs. He also is third on the team with nine stolen bases. Senior James Mattutat is fourth on the team with 18 RBI and has a team-high-tying five home runs.
· Freshman Alfred Hoti was named ECC Rookie of the Week on March 14th and has seven RBI in 22 games.
· Junior Anthony Burgio was named ECC Pitcher of the Week on March 21st and was named Second Team All-ECC last season. He has pitched 51 innings this season with a 4.94 ERA, a team-high 49 strikeouts, a 3-4 record and one save. Junior Kevin Seckler is 3-1 on the bump in 45.2 innings with 26 strikeouts in 12 appearances. Graduate student Kuzari Jocelyn is 2-1 with three saves and a 2.65 ERA in 17.0 innings with 11 strikeouts.
· Mercy looks to improve to 6-0 all-time against D'Youville.
· The Mavericks are hitting .269 as a team and have a 5.75 team ERA through 38 games.
Scouting the Saints
· D'Youville is coming off an 11-3 loss and 3-2 win over Mansfield on Tuesday.
· The Saints were picked eighth in the ECC Preseason Coaches' Poll after going 2-25 last season and 0-21 in the ECC.
· Sophomore Alex Dzimian leads D'Youville at the plate with a .421 average and 45 hits. He also has a team-high 28 runs with 17 RBI and seven doubles. Sophomore Ethan Hammond is hitting .398 with 19 RBI, 23 runs, 43 hits and a team-high 11 doubles.
· Senior George Farid has a team-high 25 RBI and five home runs and is hitting .292. Freshman Alec Boucher has 23 RBI and a team-high five triples with a .327 average.
· The pitching staff is led by freshman Chris AuClair who is 5-2 on the mound with a 2.50 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 54.0 innings. Freshman Rob Stephens is 3-4 with a 7.14 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 40.1 innings and freshman Samuel Worthen is 1-0 with a 4.33 ERA in 27.0 innings with 23 strikeouts.
· D'Youville is hitting .301 as a team and has a 6.81 team ERA through 30 games.
