Scouting the Mavericks

·        The Mavericks are coming off a 2-2 tie against RV Adelphi on Tuesday. Mercy was led by senior Ivan Martinez Jr. who recorded an RBI.

·        Mercy was picked third in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 18-11 last season, qualifying for the ECC Tournament for the first time since 2010. The Mavericks set a school record with 14 ECC wins and had their first winning record overall since 1990.

·        Freshman Jaden Caballero was named ECC Rookie of the Week last week and ECC Player of the Week on February 21st and is hitting .358 with a team-high 38 hits to go along with two home runs and 16 RBI. He also has a team-high 20 runs and 14 stolen bases in 27 games.

·        Senior Jonathan Diforio was named ECC Pitcher of the Week on February 21st and was named to the ECC Honor Roll last week. He is 2-2 on the mound with a team-best 3.52 ERA in 46 innings pitched with 23 strikeouts. Freshman Scott Scheppy has pitched 37.1 innings and has 19 strikeouts with a 5.54 ERA.

·        Graduate student Robert Wootten and senior Nikko Liguori were tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll on February 21st. Wootten has 18 RBI on the year with a team-high three triples. Liguori has seven RBI and 13 runs.

·        Junior Justin Glennerster has a home run and 10 RBI on the year and the reigning ECC Rookie of the Year junior Nolan Giblin is hitting a team-high .391 with a team-high 20 RBI and three home runs. He also is second on the team with 36 hits, 16 runs and eight stolen bases. Senior James Mattutat is fifth on the team with eight RBI.

·        Freshman Alfred Hoti was named ECC Rookie of the Week last week and has four RBI in 15 games.

·        Junior Anthony Burgio was named ECC Pitcher of the Week on March 21st and was named Second Team All-ECC last season. He has pitched 45 innings this season with a 4.60 ERA, a team-high 46 strikeouts, a 3-3 record and one save. Junior Kevin Seckler is 2-1 on the bump in 29.1 innings with 17 strikeouts in eight appearances. Graduate student Kuzari Jocelyn is 2-1 with two saves and a 2.02 ERA in 13.1 innings with seven strikeouts.

·        Mercy earned their first win over a ranked team since 2018 after defeating No. 14 Goldey-Beacom on February 20th.

·        The Mavericks are hitting .267 as a team and have a 5.84 team ERA through 27 games.

·        Mercy is looking to win the season series with Molloy for the first time since 2015.

Scouting the Lions

·        Molloy is coming off a 17-3 loss to East Stroudsburg on Tuesday.

·        The Lions were picked first in the ECC Preseason Coaches' Poll after going 25-11 last season, winning the ECC Championship. Molloy advanced to the final of the NCAA East Region Championship in 2021.

·        Molloy is currently ranked No. 19 in the NCBWA Top 25 Poll and is ranked second in the NCBWA East Region Top 10 Poll.

·        The Lions are led by ECC Preseason Player of the Week senior Matt Overton who is batting .350 with a team-high 27 RBI and five home runs. He also has 28 runs and a team-high 11 doubles. Senior Thomas Brady is hitting a team-high .365 with 22 RBI and a team-high 29 runs with seven doubles.

·        Junior David Franchi is hitting .362 with 25 RBI and 21 runs and sophomore Chris Einemann is hitting .347 with 25 RBI and 22 runs scored. Senior Vincent Pecora has a team-high 15 stolen bases and is hitting .342 on the year.

·        ECC Preseason Pitcher of the Year junior Charlie Cucchiara is 4-0 on the mound with a 3.98 ERA in 43 innings with 32 strikeouts. Senior Billy Wildeman is 3-1 with a 3.92 ERA in 41.1 innings with 48 strikeouts and senior Mike Andreoli has a team-high five wins with a 3.92 ERA in 39 innings.
