Scouting the Mavericks
· Mercy is coming off a 1-0 loss and 7-4 win over Molloy on Tuesday. The Mavericks were led by junior Samantha Franck and senior Ariana Ricci who both had two RBI in the game two win.
· Mercy was picked fourth in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 17-14 last season, qualifying for the ECC Tournament for the first time since 2018. The Mavericks went 15-9 in ECC play a year ago.
· On March 7th, sophomore Shannon Sisco, senior Alexis Crawford and freshman Maddie Lula were named to the ECC Honor Roll.
· Sisco was named ECC Player of the Week, junior Alexi Benson was tabbed Pitcher of the Week, freshman Victoria Seppala was named Rookie of the Week and senior Ariana Ricci was named to the Honor Roll on February 21st.
· Sisco is hitting a team-high .394 with a team-high 17 runs with 28 hits to go along with six RBI. Lula has 18 hits, seven runs, two home runs and seven RBI and Crawford is hitting .309 with a team-high 30 hits and 13 stolen bases. She also has 14 runs, five RBI and two doubles.
· Junior Samantha Franck has 20 hits with a team-high 12 RBI, six doubles and two home runs and Ricci has 11 RBI with eight runs scored.
· Benson is 3-10 in the circle with a 3.78 ERA in 83.1 innings with 74 strikeouts. Senior Sabrina Gonzalez has pitched 51 innings with 22 strikeouts in eight starts. Junior Angelina Oquendo is 0-3 in the circle with a 5.73 ERA in 22 innings with 13 strikeouts.
· Crawford, graduate student Danielle Burgos and junior Sydney Johnston were named First Team All-ECC last season.
· The Mavericks are looking to sweep a doubleheader at Queens for the first time since 2013.
· Mercy is looking to sweep a doubleheader at STAC for the first time since 2019.
Scouting the Spartans
· St. Thomas Aquinas is coming off a 5-4 loss and 6-0 win over Post on Monday. The Spartans will host D'Youville on Friday before hosting Mercy on Sunday.
· The Spartans were picked third in the ECC Preseason Coaches' Poll after going 24-13 last year, making their first-ever appearance in the final of the ECC Championship.
· Freshman Abbie Landrum leads the Spartans at the plate with a .396 average. She has 21 hits, seven runs and 10 RBI. The freshman is also 5-7 in the circle with a 2.72 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 74.2 innings.
· Senior Carissa Della Vecchia is hitting .357 with 10 RBI and a team-high 17 runs scored. Junior Emilie Olivier has a team-high 18 RBI and senior Amanda Castro has 13 RBI and a team-high-tying two home runs.
· Della Vecchia is 6-5 in the circle with a 3.55 ERA in 73 innings with 98 strikeouts.
Scouting the Knights
· Queens is coming off 5-0 and 9-3 losses to Bridgeport on Tuesday. The Knights will host Caldwell on Friday before hosting Mercy on Saturday.
· The Knights were picked sixth in the ECC Preseason Coaches' Poll after going 4-20 in 2021.
· Queens is led at the plate by freshman Amanda Baez who is hitting a team-high .314 with three RBI and a team-high seven stolen bases. Junior Cyarra Alvarado is hitting .298 with six RBI, a team-high two home runs and eight runs.
· Senior Ann Grimshaw has six RBI and is hitting .295 and senior Danielle D'Angelo is hitting .244 with five RBI and five runs.
· The pitching staff is led by senior Emma Wimmer who is 0-7 in the circle with a 4.54 ERA in 44.2 innings with 29 strikeouts. Sophomore Arianna Fracchioni is 1-3 with a 3.96 ERA in 17.2 innings with seven strikeouts.
