Scouting the Mavericks
· Mercy is coming off a 15-10 win over No. 2 seed Roberts Wesleyan in the ECC Final on Saturday, May 7th. The Mavericks were led by senior Brady Kearnan who had a game-high eight points on three goals and five assists.
· Kearnan was named ECC Offensive Player of the Year, junior Justin Gerdvil was named Defensive Player of the Year and senior Tommy Umano was named Goalkeeper of the Year. Kearnan, Gerdvil, Umano, graduate student Dominic Scorcia, seniors Jack Kipnes, Jack Gibbons and Jake Fitzgerald and sophomore Andrew Calabria were named First Team All-ECC. Graduate student Matt Eccles, junior TJ Heyder and sophomore Tyler Pjatak were tabbed to the Second Team. Head Coach Jordan Levine was named ECC Coach of the Year for the third straight year.
· Last week, Kearnan and Umano were named to the ECC Honor Roll.
· On April 27th, Heyder and Kipnes were tabbed to the USILA D2 Team of the Week.
· On April 25th, Heyder was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week and Kipnes was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week.
· On April 18th, Scorcia was named to the ECC Honor Roll.
· On April 11th, Fitzgerald was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week and Kearnan, graduate student Marty Shargel and junior Mustapha Daffeh were tabbed to the Honor Roll.
· On March 28th, Kearnan was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week and Heyder and Gerdvil were tabbed to the Honor Roll. Kearnan was also named to the USILA Division II Team of the Week on Tuesday.
· On March 21st, Umano was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time.
· On March 14th, Kipnes was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week and Scorcia was named to the Honor Roll. Kipnes was also tabbed to the USILA Division II Team of the Week.
· On March 7th, Pjatak and junior PJ Argiros were named to the ECC Honor Roll.
· Pjatak was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week and Scorcia and Kearnan were tabbed to the Honor Roll on February 28th. Kearnan was also named to the USILA Division II Team of the Week after having a team-high 11 points.
· Mercy was picked to finish 1st in the ECC Preseason Poll and Kearnan was named Co-Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and Gerdvil was tabbed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The Mavericks went 9-1 during the 2021 season, winning their second straight ECC Championship and earning their second straight NCAA Tournament berth.
· Mercy is currently ranked No. 2 in the USILA Coaches Poll and in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll. The rankings are both the highest in school history.
· The Mavericks captured their third straight ECC Regular Season and Tournament Championships.
· Mercy is making their third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Mavericks have advanced to the Quarterfinals all three times. Mercy has never advanced to the Semifinals.
· The Mavericks lone NCAA Tournament win in program history came over Seton Hill on May 8, 2019 by a score of 15-10 at Mercy Field.
· Mercy earned the No. 1 seed in the North Region for the first time and will be hosting a Quarterfinal game for the first time.
· The Mavericks are 3-6 all-time against Seton Hill, but have won two of the last three meetings including a 10-8 win this season on March 20th at Seton Hill.
· Mercy is 46-5 in their last 51 games dating back to the start of the 2019 season.
· Mercy has had 10 straight winning seasons and have qualified for the ECC Championship in seven straight seasons.
· The Mavericks have won 21 straight games against ECC competition, with their last loss coming in the 2018 ECC Championship Semifinal.
· Head Coach Jordan Levine recorded his 100th career win in the victory over Molloy on March 26th. He currently holds a 108-38 record in 10 seasons as head coach.
· Scorcia was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week once and is second on the team with 66 points on a team-high 44 goals with 22 assists. The graduate student became the third Maverick in program history to record 200 career points against Le Moyne on March 5th. He also now has a school-record 150 career goals. Kearnan leads the team with 70 points on 33 goals and a team-high 37 assists. He recorded his 200th career point in the win over Frostburg State on May 7th.
· Eccles is fifth on the team with 32 points on 19 goals and 13 assists. Gibbons has been named to the ECC Honor Roll once this season and has 27 goals and 13 assists. Sophomore Andrew Calabria is sixth on the team with 25 points on 20 goals and five assists. Heyder is fourth on the team with 38 points by way of 27 goals and 11 assists.
· Sophomore Brody Caskenette has 13 points on seven goals and six assists and junior Robert Guglielmo has four goals and eight assists.
· The defense is led by Gerdvil who has a team-high 18 caused turnovers with 41 ground balls. Pjatak is third on the team with 16 caused turnovers and has 36 ground balls. Senior Sean Rigley was named ECC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year in 2021 and has 11 caused turnovers and 15 ground balls. He was named the ECC Championship's Most Outstanding Player last week. Kipnes was named ECC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year prior to the 2020 season and is tied for third on the team with 16 caused turnovers. Fitzgerald is second on the team with 17 caused turnovers.
· Argiros has been named to the ECC Honor Roll twice and leads the team with 68 ground balls and is 118-193 (.611) on faceoffs this season. Sophomore Jason Kuehner is 88-139 (.633) on faceoffs with 41 ground balls. He went 23-for-30 on faceoffs with a career-high 12 ground balls in the win over Roberts Wesleyan on May 4th.
· Senior Tommy Umano is a two-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week and is 14-1 in goal with 133 saves, a .586 save percentage and 8.04 goals-against average in 701:22 minutes of action. The senior recorded his 200th career save in the win over Seton Hill on March 20th.
· Kearnan, Rigley, Gerdvil, Gibbons, Kipnes and Scorcia all earned Preseason All-American honors from Inside Lacrosse prior to this season.
Scouting the Griffins
· Seton Hill is coming off an 8-7 win at No. 4 seed Mercyhurst in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday.
· The Griffins were picked second in the G-MAC Preseason Coaches' Poll after going 11-3 last season. Seton Hill advanced to the G-MAC final and earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
· Seton Hill won the G-MAC Championship with a 14-10 win at Mercyhurst on May 7th.
· The Griffins are currently ranked No. 15 nationally in the USILA Poll and No. 14 in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Poll.
· Seton Hill enters Sunday's game on a four-game winning streak and have won six of their last seven games.
· The Griffins are making their fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and fifth overall.
· Seton Hill is led by First Team All-GMAC selection Thomas Hanulak who has a team-high 43 goals with 25 assists. Second Team All-GMAC selection McGarity Harper has a team-high 72 points on the year on 41 goals and a team-high 31 assists.
· Andy Davis is third on the team with 42 points on 29 goals and 13 assists and Second Team All-GMAC recipient Jeremy Sforzo has 19 goals and 21 assists. First Team All-GMAC selection Zack Estabrooks has 31 goals and five assists.
· Second Team All-GMAC performer Christian Krauch has a team-high 15 caused turnovers and Second All-GMAC recipient Logan Gray is 243-356 (.683) on faceoffs with a team-high 135 ground balls.
· Second Team All-GMAC honoree Josh Miller went 9-5 in goal with 115 saves, a .494 save percentage and 10.57 goals-against average. Kevin Mo went 3-1 in goal with 85 saves, a .625 save percentage and 7.43 goals-against average in 12 games.
