Scouting the Mavericks
· Mercy is coming off a 12-6 win over RV Frostburg State on Saturday. The Mavericks were led by senior Brady Kearnan who had a game-high five points and by senior Tommy Umano who made a game-high 14 saves.
· Last Wednesday, Heyder and senior Jack Kipnes were tabbed to the USILA D2 Team of the Week.
· Last Monday, Heyder was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week and Kipnes was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week.
· On April 18th, Scorcia was named to the ECC Honor Roll.
· On April 11th, senior Jake Fitzgerald was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week and senior Kearnan, graduate student Marty Shargel and junior Mustapha Daffeh were tabbed to the Honor Roll.
· On March 28th, Kearnan was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week and Heyder and Justin Gerdvil were tabbed to the Honor Roll. Kearnan was also named to the USILA Division II Team of the Week on Tuesday.
· On March 21st, Umano was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time.
· On March 14th, Kipnes was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week and Scorcia was named to the Honor Roll. Kipnes was also tabbed to the USILA Division II Team of the Week.
· On March 7th, sophomore Tyler Pjatak and junior PJ Argiros were named to the ECC Honor Roll.
· Pjatak was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week and Scorcia and Kearnan were tabbed to the Honor Roll on February 28th. Kearnan was also named to the USILA Division II Team of the Week after having a team-high 11 points.
· Mercy was picked to finish 1st in the ECC Preseason Poll and Kearnan was named Co-Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and Gerdvil was tabbed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The Mavericks went 9-1 during the 2021 season, winning their second straight ECC Championship and earning their second straight NCAA Tournament berth.
· Mercy is currently ranked No. 2 in the USILA Coaches Poll and in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll. The rankings are both the highest in school history.
· The Mavericks earned a 27-15 win in the teams' regular season meeting on April 23rd in Rochester. Mercy is 11-0 all-time against Roberts Wesleyan and defeated the Redhawks 7-5 in the ECC Championship Final last year.
· Mercy is 44-5 in their last 49 games dating back to the start of the 2019 season.
· Mercy has had 10 straight winning seasons and have now qualified for the ECC Championship in seven straight seasons.
· The Mavericks have won 19 straight games against ECC competition, with their last loss coming in the 2018 ECC Championship Semifinal.
· Mercy has advanced to the Final in three of the last four years the tournament has been held.
· The Mavericks are ranked second in the second NCAA Regional Rankings released on Wednesday. The top six teams in the North Region qualify for the NCAA Tournament at the end of the season.
· Head Coach Jordan Levine recorded his 100th career win in the victory over Molloy on March 26th. He currently holds a 106-38 record in 10 seasons as head coach.
· Scorcia has been named ECC Offensive Player of the Week once and is second on the team with 52 points on a team-high 36 goals with 16 assists. The graduate student became the third Maverick in program history to record 200 career points against Le Moyne on March 5th. He also now has a school-record 142 career goals. Kearnan leads the team with 54 points on 26 goals and a team-high 28 assists. He recorded his 200th career point in the win over Frostburg State on Saturday.
· Graduate student Matt Eccles is fifth on the team with 28 points on 15 goals and 13 assists. Senior Jack Gibbons has been named to the ECC Honor Roll once this season and has 21 goals and 12 assists. Sophomore Andrew Calabria is sixth on the team with 25 points on 20 goals and five assists. Heyder is fourth on the team with 31 points by way of 21 goals and 10 assists.
· Sophomore Brody Caskenette has 12 points on seven goals and five assists and junior Robert Guglielmo has four goals and seven assists.
· The defense is led by Pjatak who has a team-high-tying 14 caused turnovers with 31 ground balls. Gerdvil also has a team-high-tying 14 caused turnovers and is second with 32 ground balls. Senior Sean Rigley was named ECC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year in 2021 and has eight caused turnovers and 13 ground balls. Kipnes was named ECC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year prior to the 2020 season and is tied for the team lead with 14 caused turnovers. Fitzgerald has 13 caused turnovers.
· Argiros has been named to the ECC Honor Roll twice and leads the team with 61 ground balls and is 108-175 (.617) on faceoffs this season. Sophomore Jason Kuehner is 60-99 (.606) on faceoffs with 26 ground balls.
· Senior Tommy Umano is a two-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week and is 12-1 in goal with 106 saves, a .592 save percentage and 7.53 goals-against average in 581:22 minutes of action. The senior recorded his 200th career save in the win over Seton Hill on March 20th.
· Kearnan, Rigley, Gerdvil, Gibbons, Kipnes and Scorcia all earned Preseason All-American honors from Inside Lacrosse prior to this season.
Scouting the Redhawks
· Roberts Wesleyan is coming off a 9-8 double-overtime loss to Molloy on Saturday.
· The Redhawks were picked third in the ECC Preseason Coaches' Poll after going 7-5 last season.
· The Redhawks are making their third straight appearance in the ECC Championship.
· Roberts Wesleyan is looking to advance to the Final for the second straight season and are looking to win their first-ever ECC Championship.
· The Redhawks are receiving votes in the latest USILA Top 20 poll.
· Roberts Wesleyan is led by ECC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and three-time ECC Offensive Player of the Week senior Hunter Lemieux who has a team-high 76 points on a team-high 57 goals with 19 assists. One-time ECC Offensive Player of the Week junior Reid Jackowski has 70 points on 33 goals and a team-high 37 assists.
· Sophomore Jordon Deats is third on the team with 40 points on 25 goals and 15 assists and senior Nate Maloney has 38 points on 26 goals and 12 assists.
· Two-time ECC Offensive Player of the Week graduate student Mitch Streety has a team-high 137 ground balls and is 233-for-337 (.691) on faceoffs. Junior Garet Marsh has a team-high 18 caused turnovers with 28 ground balls.
· One-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week sophomore Aidan Sheehan is 10-4 in goal with 135 saves, a .440 save percentage and 12.14 goals-against average.
