Camacho Records Game-High Three Points as No. 25 Women's Soccer Earns 2-1 Win Over Holy Family

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Sept. 13, 2022) – Powered by a game-high three points from junior Kayla Camacho (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream) on a goal and an assist, the No. 25 Mercy College women's soccer team earned a 2-1 win over Holy Family University on Tuesday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (5-1) have won five games in a row and defeat the Tigers (0-4-1) for the first time since 2019.

Camacho recorded her team-high-tying fourth goal and third assist of the season and now has a team-high 11 points on the year. Graduate student Nikki Bermudez (Oceanside, N.Y./New York Tech) scored her team-high-tying fourth goal of the season and junior Madison Rosa (Dublin, Calif./Dublin) added her team-high-tying third assist of the season. Freshman Kamy Anaya (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) made a career-high six saves to earn the win.

Holy Family was led by Jacqueline Ziegler who scored and by Brianna Pudlo who had a game-high-tying six saves.

Mercy had the first scoring chance of the game in the 10th minute of action and capitalized to take a 1-0 lead. Rosa fired a corner kick to in front of the net where Camacho headed it into the back of the net to give Mercy an early lead.

The Mavericks later made it 2-0 in the 16th minute when Camacho sent a pass to in front of the net and Bermudez fired it home to give Mercy an early 2-0 lead.

Mercy continued to apply pressure to the Holy Family backline, but Pudlo made four saves in the opening half to keep the Mercy lead at 2-0 heading into halftime.

Anaya made four saves in the second half to keep it 2-0 until the 88th minute when Ziegler scored to make it 2-1. Mercy withstood a late Holy Family charge to earn the 2-1 win.

Mercy held a 15-10 edge in shots and a 9-7 edge in shots on goal. Mercy maintained an 8-5 edge in corner kicks.

Head Coach Danny Leon Jr. and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, September 17th when they host D'Youville at 2:30 p.m.
