Ringstad, Palladino and Rosenfeld Score as Field Hockey Earns 3-1 Win Over Franklin Pierce

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 21, 2023) – Powered by goals from seniors Kate Ringstad (Woodstock, Md./Mount de Sales Academy), Rachel Palladino (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) and Kelly Rosenfeld (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa), the Mercy University field hockey team earned a 3-1 win over NE10 foe Franklin Pierce University on Saturday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (7-8, 6-5 NE10) have won four games in a row and defeat the Ravens (6-8, 5-6 NE10) for the third straight time. Mercy has won four games in a row for the first time since 2015 and currently sit in seventh place in the NE10 standings with the top eight qualifying for the NE10 Championship.

Ringstad had a game-high three points on her eighth goal of the season and fifth assist of the year. Palladino netted her team-leading 12th goal of the season and Rosenfeld recorded her fifth goal of the season. Senior Rieley Fitzgerald (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) added her fourth assist of the season and junior Alexandra Giordano (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) made four saves to earn the win.

Franklin Pierce was led by Zoe Noorlag who made four saves and by Silver Clukey who scored.

The game remained scoreless until the 11th minute when Aria Caputo found Clukey in front of the goal on a cross and Clukey fired the ball into the back of the cage to make it 1-0. The Mavericks had a quick response as Ringstad struck for a goal in the 13th minute to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the second quarter.

Fitzgerald found Palladino in the 22nd minute and Palladino recorded the goal to give Mercy a 2-1 lead. Giordano made three saves to close out the half giving the Mavericks a 2-1 lead at halftime.

Giordano stopped a shot in the 35th minute to keep Mercy ahead 2-1 heading into the fourth quarter.

Rosenfeld gave the Mavericks a 3-1 lead in the 50th minute following an assist from Ringstad. Mercy's defense did not surrender a shot on goal in the final 10 minutes of the game and the Mavericks held on for the 3-1 win.

Mercy held a 12-7 edge in shots and a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. Mercy also held a 6-4 edge in corners.

Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola and the Mavericks resume action on Tuesday, October 24th when they play at Saint Anselm at 4 p.m.
