WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (Feb. 6, 2023) – Mercy College men's basketball junior Jayden Dewaal (Toronto, Canada/Trinidad State Junior College) has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Men's Basketball Player and Defensive Player of the Week for Week 12.
Dewaal averaged a team-high 21.5 points, 18.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game as Mercy went 1-1 on the week. The junior also averaged 3.5 assists per game and shot 62.1 percent from the floor with two double-doubles. The forward had 17 points, 15 rebounds, three assists and three blocks in the Mavericks win over Cheyney on Wednesday. Dewaal ended the week with a game-high 26 points and 21 rebounds with four assists and two blocks against Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday.
The junior has now earned three awards on the year and the Mavericks have earned seven awards on the year.
Interim Head Coach Chris Watts and the Mavericks resume action on Wednesday, February 8th when they host St. Thomas Aquinas at 7 p.m.
