Scouting the Mavericks
· Mercy is coming off a 21-14 win over Roberts Wesleyan in their ECC opener on Sunday. The Mavericks were led by graduate student Thomas Connors who had a game-high eight points on two goals and six assists.
· On Monday, Connors and juniors Brody Caskenette and Jason Kuehner were tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll.
· Last week, senior Brady Kearnan was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week for the third time and senior Justin Gerdvil was tabbed to the Honor Roll.
· On March 6th, Gerdvil and Heyder were both named to the ECC Honor Roll. Gerdvil was also named to the USILA Division II Team of the Week for the second time on March 7th.
· On February 27th, Kearnan and junior Jason Kuehner were tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll.
· Kearnan has a team-high 42 points on a team-high 24 goals and 18 assists with seven caused turnovers and 16 ground balls. He recorded his 100th career ground ball against Le Moyne, recorded his 100th career goal as a Maverick against Georgian Court and recorded his 200th career point as a Maverick against Wilmington. Graduate student Jack Gibbons has 22 goals and seven assists on the season, recording his 100th career goal against Roberts Wesleyan on Sunday. Graduate student Thomas Connors is third on the team with 28 points on 13 goals and 15 assists. Junior Greg Gibbons has seven points on four goals and three assists and senior TJ Heyder has 23 goals and two assists. Heyder recorded his 100th career point on Sunday. Senior Robert Guglielmo has five goals and four assists and junior Andrew Calabria has six goals and six assists. Caskenette has seven goals and freshman Devon Duchnowski has six goals. Sophomore Ian Votta has four goals and two assists.
· The defense has been led by Gerdvil who has a team-high 21 caused turnovers with a team-high 38 ground balls. Graduate student Jake Fitzgerald is second on the team with eight caused turnovers and senior Zack Higgins has five caused turnovers. Junior Tyler Pjatak has six caused turnovers and graduate student Jack Kipnes has five caused turnovers and 19 ground balls. Kuehner is 101-144 (.701) on faceoffs with 29 ground balls, two assists and two goals. Graduate student Tommy Umano is 6-1 in goal with 56 saves, a .505 save percentage and 9.93 goals-against average.
· Kearnan was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week and Gerdvil was named Defensive Player of the Week on February 20th. Gibbons was tabbed to the Honor Roll for the second straight week on February 20th.
· Barone was tabbed ECC Rookie of the Week on February 13th and Kuehner was named to the USILA Team of the Week on February 14th.
· Mercy is 2-0 all-time against Bentley with the first meeting taking place in 2020.
· The Mavericks have won 22 straight games against ECC competition, with their last loss coming in the 2018 ECC Championship Semifinal.
· The Mavericks are ranked No. 2 nationally in the USILA poll and No. 4 nationally in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine poll. Mercy was ranked No. 2 nationally in the preseason for the first time in program history.
· Mercy was picked to finish first in the ECC Preseason Poll and Kearnan was named ECC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and graduate student Jack Kipnes was tabbed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
· The Mavericks made their third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament last season and advanced to the National Championship Game for the first time last season. Mercy also won their third straight ECC Regular Season and Tournament Championships last season.
· Mercy has had 10 straight winning seasons and have qualified for the ECC Championship in seven straight seasons.
· The Mavericks are 54-7 in their last 61 games dating back to the start of the 2019 season.
· Kearnan was named to the Inside Lacrosse Player of the Year Watch List on February 10th and Kearnan, Gerdvil, Jack Gibbons, Kipnes and Umano were tabbed USILA Preseason All-Americans on February 1st.
· Kearnan, Gerdvil, Jack Gibbons, Kipnes, junior Tyler Pjatak and Umano were named Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-Americans on January 27th.
· Gibbons was named USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Midfielder of the Year and Kearnan, Gerdvil, Kipnes, Umano and Pjatak were tabbed to the Preseason All-American Teams.
Scouting the Falcons
· Bentley is coming off a 15-13 win over Saint Rose on Saturday.
· The Falcons were picked fifth in the NE10 Preseason Poll after going 8-6 last season, falling in the NE10 Championship Semifinals.
· Bentley is currently receiving votes in the USILA Top 20 poll and is ranked No. 20 in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine poll.
· The Falcons are led by Nathan Alviti and Luke Jaber who both have a team-high nine goals. Alviti also has four assists for a team-high 13 points on the year. Conor Segreti has a team-high five assists with six goals.
· Garrett Witt has four goals and four assists and Cam Bartolomeo has a team-high 12 ground balls and is 30-of-65 on faceoffs. Segreti has a team-high four caused turnovers and Alex Parton has 10 ground balls and three caused turnovers.
· Jackson Tinsley is 2-1 in goal with 32 saves, a .485 save percentage and 12.18 goals-against average.
