Scouting the Mavericks
· Mercy is coming off 11-10 and 13-12 come-from-behind wins over Bloomfield in their home opener on Saturday. The Mavericks were led by senior Sydney Johnston who had a team-high six RBI.
· Johnston was named ECC Player of the Week on Monday.
· Freshman Cayla Crawford was named ECC Player and Rookie of the Week and senior Alexi Benson was tabbed to the Honor Roll last week.
· Crawford was named ECC Rookie of the Week and junior Shannon Sisco was tabbed to the Honor Roll on February 20th.
· Mercy was picked fourth in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 11-38 last season, qualifying for the ECC Tournament for the second straight season. The Mavericks went 9-15 in ECC play a year ago.
· Mercy is 0-7 in their last seven meetings against Adelphi and 0-4 in their last four meetings against Caldwell.
· Sisco is hitting .362 with a team-high 13 runs and 21 hits to go along with two RBI. Senior Hailey Puglia is hitting .302 with 13 hits and two doubles and senior Nicole Smart has seven hits and seven RBI. Senior Sydney Johnston has a team-high 10 RBI with three doubles and a .355 average and junior Alexandra Karavias has two RBI.
· Crawford is hitting a team-high .424 with four RBI, 14 hits, seven runs and a team-high eight stolen bases.
· The pitching staff is led by senior Alexi Benson who is 1-6 with a 2.64 ERA in 50.1 innings with 37 strikeouts. Senior Angelina Oquendo is 0-3 with a 6.90 ERA in 23.1 innings and freshman Marina Provencio is 2-1 in the circle with a 5.89 ERA in 19.0 innings.
· Benson, Sisco and senior Samantha Franck were named Second Team All-ECC last season.
· Mercy is hitting .230 as a team through 16 games and has a 5.17 ERA.
Scouting the Panthers
· Adelphi is coming off 5-2 and 3-0 wins over Adelphi on Thursday.
· The Panthers were picked first in the NE10 Preseason Poll after going 47-15 last season, advancing to the NCAA Tournament.
· Adelphi is ranked No. 15 nationally in the NFCA Poll.
· The Panthers are led at the plate by Courtney Wengryn who is batting .450 with a team-high 18 runs, 18 hits, four home runs and 16 RBI. Jordyn Pasqueralli is hitting a team-high .519 with 13 runs and three RBI and Faith Camilleri is hitting .381 with nine RBI.
· Zee Zee Shreter is hitting .316 with three home runs and 10 RBI.
· Lindsey Hibbs leads the pitching staff with a 1.05 ERA in 46.2 innings with a 5-1 record and 98 strikeouts. Claire Fon is 4-1 with a 2.00 ERA in 28 innings with 30 strikeouts.
· Adelphi has a .299 team batting average and 1.87 team ERA.
Scouting the Cougars
· Caldwell is coming off a 2-0 loss to Nova Southeastern on Thursday. The Cougars will face New Haven on Wednesday before hosting Mercy on Thursday.
· The Cougars were picked second in the CACC Preseason Poll after going 39-17 last season, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament.
· Caldwell is led at the plate by Maya Rodriguez who is hitting a team-high .483 with one RBI, 14 hits and three doubles. Jessica Klein has a team-high six RBI and eight stolen bases with four runs and Brooke Martin is hitting .286 with one RBI.
· Ashleigh Tavaska has five RBI and Emma Cooney has four RBI.
· Madison Burns leads the pitching staff with a 0.97 ERA in 21.2 innings with a 3-1 record. Kayla Daly is 0-3 in the circle with a 2.90 ERA in 19.1 innings.
· Caldwell has a .239 team batting average and a 2.41 team ERA.
