Scouting the Mavericks
· Mercy is coming off 11-3 and 5-0 losses to Caldwell on Friday. The Mavericks were led by seniors Samantha Franck and Nicole Smart who each had an RBI.
· Senior Sydney Johnston was named ECC Player of the Week on Monday.
· Freshman Cayla Crawford was named ECC Player and Rookie of the Week and senior Alexi Benson was tabbed to the Honor Roll last week.
· Crawford was named ECC Rookie of the Week and junior Shannon Sisco was tabbed to the Honor Roll on February 20th.
· Mercy was picked fourth in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 11-38 last season, qualifying for the ECC Tournament for the second straight season. The Mavericks went 9-15 in ECC play a year ago.
· Mercy is 11-1 in their last 12 meetings against Goldey-Beacom with the lone loss coming in 2015.
· Sisco is hitting .343 with a team-high 15 runs and 24 hits to go along with two RBI. Senior Hailey Puglia is hitting .275 with 14 hits and two doubles and senior Nicole Smart has nine hits and eight RBI. Johnston has a team-high 10 RBI with three doubles and a .268 average and junior Alexandra Karavias has two RBI.
· Crawford is hitting a team-high .357 with four RBI, 15 hits, eight runs and a team-high eight stolen bases.
· The pitching staff is led by Benson who is 1-8 with a 3.66 ERA in 57.1 innings with 41 strikeouts. Senior Angelina Oquendo is 0-4 with a 6.10 ERA in 28.2 innings and freshman Marina Provencio is 2-1 in the circle with a 6.18 ERA in 22.2 innings.
· Benson, Sisco and senior Samantha Franck were named Second Team All-ECC last season.
· Mercy is hitting .222 as a team through 20 games and has a 5.46 ERA.
Scouting the Lightning
· Goldey-Beacom is coming off 3-2 and 6-1 wins over Queens on Thursday, extending their winning streak to five games.
· The Lightning were picked 11th in the CACC Preseason Poll after going 24-21 last season.
· Goldey-Beacom is led at the plate by Morgan Scott who is batting a team-high .435 with six doubles. Carly Setting is hitting .413 with 16 RBI, five doubles and three triples and Autumn Simpson is hitting .388 with a team-high 20 RBI, seven doubles and two home runs.
· Hannah Davis is batting .378 with a team-high 23 runs scored and Chasedy Johnson has a team-high 22 stolen bases.
· The pitching staff is led by Alesia Doctor who has a team-best 1.84 ERA in 61 innings with 62 strikeouts and a 6-5 record. Morgan McLane has a 2.14 ERA with four wins, four saves and 54 strikeouts in 55.2 innings.
· Goldey-Beacom has a .349 team batting average and 2.59 team ERA.
