Scouting the Mavericks

·         Mercy is coming off 5-4 and 14-4 wins over Goldey-Beacom on Sunday. The Mavericks were led by senior Sydney Johnston who had a team-high six RBI on the day.

·         Senior Sydney Johnston was named ECC Player of the Week last week.  

·         Freshman Cayla Crawford was named ECC Player and Rookie of the Week and senior Alexi Benson was tabbed to the Honor Roll on March 13th.

·         Crawford was named ECC Rookie of the Week and junior Shannon Sisco was tabbed to the Honor Roll on February 20th.

·         Mercy was picked fourth in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 11-38 last season, qualifying for the ECC Tournament for the second straight season. The Mavericks went 9-15 in ECC play a year ago.

·         Mercy is 33-18 in their last 51 meetings against the Spartans.

·         Sisco is hitting .346 with a team-high 17 runs and 27 hits to go along with two RBI. Senior Hailey Puglia is hitting .281 with 16 hits and three doubles and senior Nicole Smart has 12 hits and 10 RBI. Johnston has a team-high 16 RBI with two home runs, four doubles and a .286 average and junior Alexandra Karavias has two RBI.

·         Crawford is hitting an ECC-best .404 with six RBI, 19 hits, 11 runs and a team-high nine stolen bases.

·         The pitching staff is led by Benson who is 2-8 with a 3.59 ERA in 64.1 innings with 46 strikeouts. Senior Angelina Oquendo is 1-4 with a 5.61 ERA in 33.2 innings and freshman Marina Provencio is 2-1 in the circle with a 6.18 ERA in 22.2 innings.

·         Benson, Sisco and senior Samantha Franck were named Second Team All-ECC last season.

·         Mercy is hitting .240 as a team through 22 games and has a 5.24 ERA.

Scouting the Spartans

·         St. Thomas Aquinas earned a 2-1 win over Saint Anselm before falling 7-6 in game two on Wednesday.

·         The Spartans were picked first in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 28-21 last season.

·         St. Thomas Aquinas is led at the plate by Sarah Williams who is batting a team-high .364 with three runs and one RBI. Eliana Raposo has a team-high eight RBI with a home run and ECC Preseason Player of the Year Carissa Della Vecchia has six RBI.

·         ECC Preseason Pitcher of the Year Abbie Landrum is second on the team with a .323 average and has four RBI.

·         Landrum is 3-4 in the circle with a 1.85 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 45.1 innings and Della Vecchia is 4-2 with a 2.28 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 43 innings.

·         The Spartans have a .257 team batting average and a 2.19 team ERA.
