Scouting the Mavericks
· Mercy is coming off a 26-2 win over ECC foe D'Youville on Sunday. The Mavericks were led by freshman Devon Duchnowski who had a game-high five goals.
· On Monday, Duchnowski was named ECC Rookie of the Week and graduate student Tommy Umano was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week. Senior TJ Heyder and junior Andrew Calabria were named to the Honor Roll.
· Last Tuesday, junior Jason Kuehner was named to the USILA Division II Team of the Week.
· Last Monday, graduate student Thomas Connors and juniors Brody Caskenette and Kuehner were tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll.
· On March 13th, senior Brady Kearnan was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week for the third time and senior Justin Gerdvil was tabbed to the Honor Roll.
· On March 6th, Gerdvil and Heyder were both named to the ECC Honor Roll. Gerdvil was also named to the USILA Division II Team of the Week for the second time on March 7th.
· On February 27th, Kearnan and junior Jason Kuehner were tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll.
· Kearnan has a team-high 42 points on a team-high 24 goals and 18 assists with seven caused turnovers and 16 ground balls. He recorded his 100th career ground ball against Le Moyne, recorded his 100th career goal as a Maverick against Georgian Court and recorded his 200th career point as a Maverick against Wilmington. Graduate student Jack Gibbons has 26 goals and eight assists on the season, recording his 100th career goal against Roberts Wesleyan on March 19th. Graduate student Thomas Connors is fourth on the team with 32 points on 16 goals and 16 assists. Junior Greg Gibbons has 11 points on six goals and five assists and senior TJ Heyder has a team-high 32 goals with five assists. Heyder recorded his 100th career point on Sunday. Senior Robert Guglielmo has six goals and four assists and Calabria has nine goals and 12 assists. Caskenette has eight goals and four assists and Duchnowski has 11 goals. Sophomore Ian Votta has six goals and two assists.
· The defense has been led by Gerdvil who has a team-high 23 caused turnovers with a team-high 41 ground balls. Graduate student Jake Fitzgerald is second on the team with 10 caused turnovers and senior Zack Higgins has five caused turnovers. Junior Tyler Pjatak has eight caused turnovers and two goals and graduate student Jack Kipnes has eight caused turnovers and 22 ground balls. Kuehner is 115-167 (.689) on faceoffs with 35 ground balls, two assists and two goals. Graduate student Tommy Umano is 8-1 in goal with 79 saves, a .534 save percentage and 9.80 goals-against average.
· Kearnan was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week and Gerdvil was named Defensive Player of the Week on February 20th. Gibbons was tabbed to the Honor Roll for the second straight week on February 20th.
· Barone was tabbed ECC Rookie of the Week on February 13th and Kuehner was named to the USILA Team of the Week on February 14th.
· Mercy is 1-4 all-time against Mercyhurst.
· The Mavericks have won 23 straight games against ECC competition, with their last loss coming in the 2018 ECC Championship Semifinal.
· The Mavericks are ranked No. 2 nationally in the USILA poll and No. 4 nationally in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine poll. Mercy was ranked No. 2 nationally in the preseason for the first time in program history.
· Mercy was picked to finish first in the ECC Preseason Poll and Kearnan was named ECC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and graduate student Jack Kipnes was tabbed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
· The Mavericks made their third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament last season and advanced to the National Championship Game for the first time last season. Mercy also won their third straight ECC Regular Season and Tournament Championships last season.
· Mercy has had 10 straight winning seasons and have qualified for the ECC Championship in seven straight seasons.
· The Mavericks are 56-7 in their last 63 games dating back to the start of the 2019 season.
· Kearnan was named to the Inside Lacrosse Player of the Year Watch List on February 10th and Kearnan, Gerdvil, Jack Gibbons, Kipnes and Umano were tabbed USILA Preseason All-Americans on February 1st.
· Kearnan, Gerdvil, Jack Gibbons, Kipnes, junior Tyler Pjatak and Umano were named Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-Americans on January 27th.
· Gibbons was named USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Midfielder of the Year and Kearnan, Gerdvil, Kipnes, Umano and Pjatak were tabbed to the Preseason All-American Teams.
Scouting the Lakers
· Mercyhurst is coming off a 28-1 win over Alderson Broaddus on Monday.
· The Lakers were picked first in the GMAC Preseason Poll after going 11-5 last season, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament.
· Mercyhurst is ranked No. 7 nationally in the USILA Top 20 poll and No. 6 nationally in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine poll.
· The Lakers are led by Myles Hamm who has a team-high 22 points on a team-high 17 goals and five assists. Ethan Landymore is second on the team with 19 points on 14 goals and five assists and Chase Petschke has five goals and two assists.
· Shawn Doran is 82-112 (.732) on faceoffs with a team-high 45 ground balls to go along with four goals and three assists. Liam Bogedain has a team-high seven caused turnovers with nine ground balls.
· Brett Olney is 5-1 in goal with 67 saves, a .620 save percentage and 7.81 goals-against average.
