Scouting the Mavericks
· Mercy is coming off an 18-15 win over No. 12 Seton Hill on Saturday. The Mavericks were led by senior TJ Heyder who had a game-high six goals and by senior Justin Gerdvil who had a game-high six caused turnovers.
· On Monday, Gerdvil and Heyder were both named to the ECC Honor Roll. Gerdvil was also named to the USILA Division II Team of the Week for the second time on Tuesday.
· Last Monday, Kearnan and junior Jason Kuehner were tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll.
· Kearnan has a team-high 34 points on a team-high 20 goals and 14 assists with six caused turnovers and 14 ground balls. He recorded his 100th career ground ball against Le Moyne on Sunday and recorded his 100th career goal as a Maverick against Georgian Court. Graduate student Jack Gibbons has 16 goals and four assists on the season and graduate student Thomas Connors is fourth on the team with 14 points on seven goals and seven assists. Junior Greg Gibbons has six points on four goals and two assists and senior TJ Heyder has 15 goals. Senior Robert Guglielmo has five goals and two assists and junior Andrew Calabria has three goals and five assists. Freshman Devon Duchnowski has three goals and sophomore Ian Votta and freshmen Connor Abrahall and Anthony Barone have two goals.
· The defense has been led by senior Justin Gerdvil who has a team-high 15 caused turnovers with a team-high 21 ground balls. Graduate student Jake Fitzgerald is second on the team with seven caused turnovers and senior Zack Higgins has four caused turnovers. Sophomore Daniel Mcloughlin and junior Cristian Castles both have three caused turnovers. Kuehner is 69-103 (.670) on faceoffs with 19 ground balls and two goals. Graduate student Tommy Umano is 4-1 in goal with 39 saves, a .494 save percentage and 10.08 goals-against average.
· Kearnan was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week and Gerdvil was named Defensive Player of the Week on February 20th. Gibbons was tabbed to the Honor Roll for the second straight week on February 20th.
· Barone was tabbed ECC Rookie of the Week on February 13th and Kuehner was named to the USILA Team of the Week on February 14th.
· Mercy is 2-0 all-time against Wilmington.
· The Mavericks are ranked No. 3 nationally in the USILA poll and No. 4 nationally in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine poll. Mercy was ranked No. 2 nationally in the preseason for the first time in program history.
· Mercy was picked to finish first in the ECC Preseason Poll and Kearnan was named ECC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and graduate student Jack Kipnes was tabbed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
· The Mavericks made their third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament last season and advanced to the National Championship Game for the first time last season. Mercy also won their third straight ECC Regular Season and Tournament Championships last season.
· Mercy has had 10 straight winning seasons and have qualified for the ECC Championship in seven straight seasons.
· The Mavericks are 52-7 in their last 59 games dating back to the start of the 2019 season.
· Kearnan was named to the Inside Lacrosse Player of the Year Watch List on February 10th and Kearnan, Gerdvil, Jack Gibbons, Kipnes and Umano were tabbed USILA Preseason All-Americans on February 1st.
· Kearnan, Gerdvil, Jack Gibbons, Kipnes, junior Tyler Pjatak and Umano were named Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-Americans on January 27th.
· Gibbons was named USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Midfielder of the Year and Kearnan, Gerdvil, Kipnes, Umano and Pjatak were tabbed to the Preseason All-American Teams.
Scouting the Wildcats
· Wilmington is coming off an 18-8 loss to No. 13 Pace on Saturday.
· The Wildcats three losses this season have all come to teams ranked in the top 13 nationally.
· Wilmington was picked first in the CACC Preseason Poll after going 11-4 last season, falling in the CACC Championship Final.
· The Wildcats have been led by junior Jacob Herman who has a team-high nine points on three goals and a team-high six assists. Redshirt junior TJ Caton has a team-high six goals with a team-high 13 ground balls.
· Junior Logan Stinson has six points on four goals and two assists and junior Giovanni Marino has five goals.
· Graduate student Nick Bruhn has a team-high seven caused turnovers and senior Jaeden Henson has five caused turnovers and eight ground balls. Sophomore Lou Savino is 13-of-44 (.295) on faceoffs and graduate student Jack Cruz is 0-2 in goal with 30 saves, a .380 save percentage and 17.82 goals-against average.
