Scouting the Mavericks

·         Mercy is coming off 8-0 and 4-0 losses to Felician on Sunday. The Mavericks were led by freshman Cayla Crawford who had a team-high three hits.

·         Crawford was named ECC Rookie of the Week and senior Samantha Franck was tabbed to the Honor Roll on Monday for the second straight week.

·         Junior Shannon Sisco was named to the ECC Honor Roll on April 3rd.

·         Franck was tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll on March 27th.

·         Senior Sydney Johnston was named ECC Player of the Week on March 20th.  

·         Crawford was named ECC Player and Rookie of the Week and senior Alexi Benson was tabbed to the Honor Roll on March 13th.

·         Crawford was named ECC Rookie of the Week and Sisco was tabbed to the Honor Roll on February 20th.

·         Mercy was picked fourth in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 11-38 last season, qualifying for the ECC Tournament for the second straight season. The Mavericks went 9-15 in ECC play a year ago.

·         The Mavericks are 33-23 in their last 53 meetings against STAC.

·         Sisco is hitting .357 with a team-high 28 runs, nine doubles and 45 hits to go along with five RBI. Senior Hailey Puglia is hitting .255 with 24 hits and three doubles and senior Nicole Smart has 20 hits and 14 RBI. Johnston has a team-high-tying 24 RBI with two home runs, eight doubles and a .269 average and junior Alexandra Karavias has a home run and four RBI.

·         Crawford is hitting a team-best and ECC-best .467 with 14 RBI, four home runs, 42 hits, 28 runs and 14 stolen bases. Franck is hitting .295 with a team-high-tying 24 RBI and a team-high five home runs. Sophomore Victoria Seppala is hitting .323 with 10 RBI and 23 runs scored.

·         The pitching staff is led by Benson who is 4-11 with a 3.71 ERA in 102 innings with 79 strikeouts. She set a school record for career strikeouts with her 283rd career strikeout at Molloy on March 30th and recorded her 300th career strikeout at Queens on April 13th. Senior Angelina Oquendo is 1-8 with a 5.49 ERA in 58.2 innings and freshman Marina Provencio is 4-2 in the circle with a 6.19 ERA in 37.1 innings.

·         Benson, Sisco and senior Samantha Franck were named Second Team All-ECC last season.

·         Mercy is hitting .261 as a team through 36 games and has a 5.12 ERA.

Scouting the Spartans

·         St. Thomas Aquinas is coming off 1-0 and 7-4 wins over Dominican on Sunday.

·         The Spartans were picked first in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 28-21 last season.

·         STAC is led at the plate by Elyse Marcano who is hitting a team-best .356 with 19 runs, eight RBI and 12 stolen bases. Eliana Raposo has a team-high 18 RBI and is hitting .303 with a team-high 24 runs. Adriana Coira has 16 RBI and a team-high four triples and Emilie Olivier has 15 RBI and two home runs.

·         ECC Preseason Pitcher of the Year Abbie Landrum is hitting .338 with 11 RBI and nine runs scored. Landrum is also 7-6 in the circle with a 2.15 ERA in 94.1 innings with 73 strikeouts. Two-time ECC Pitcher of the Week and ECC Preseason Player of the Year Carissa Della Vecchia is 10-3 with a 1.76 ERA in 83.1 innings with 126 strikeouts.

·         The Spartans are hitting .269 as a team and have a 2.27 team ERA.
