Game Preview: No. 6/9 Men's Lacrosse Hosts No. 2 Adelphi on Wednesday

Scouting the Mavericks

·         Mercy is coming off a 24-3 win over UDC on Saturday. The Mavericks were led by graduate student Thomas Connors who had a game-high six points on three goals and three assists.

·         Connors and senior Brady Kearnan were named to the ECC Honor Roll on Monday.  

·         Last Tuesday, graduate student Tommy Umano was named to the USILA Division II Team of the Week.

·         Umano was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week last Monday and Kearnan was tabbed to the Honor Roll.

·         On March 27th, freshman Devon Duchnowski was named ECC Rookie of the Week and graduate student Tommy Umano was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week. Heyder and junior Andrew Calabria were named to the Honor Roll.

·         On March 21st, junior Jason Kuehner was named to the USILA Division II Team of the Week.

·         On March 20th, graduate student Thomas Connors and juniors Brody Caskenette and Kuehner were tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll.

·         On March 13th, Kearnan was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week for the third time and senior Justin Gerdvil was tabbed to the Honor Roll.

·         On March 6th, Gerdvil and Heyder were both named to the ECC Honor Roll. Gerdvil was also named to the USILA Division II Team of the Week for the second time on March 7th.

·         On February 27th, Kearnan and Kuehner were tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll.

·         Kearnan has a team-high 55 points on 32 goals and a team-high 23 assists with eight caused turnovers and 21 ground balls. He recorded his 100th career ground ball against Le Moyne, recorded his 100th career goal as a Maverick against Georgian Court and recorded his 200th career point as a Maverick against Wilmington. Graduate student Jack Gibbons has 31 goals and nine assists on the season, recording his 100th career goal against Roberts Wesleyan on March 19th. Graduate student Thomas Connors is third on the team with 43 points on 22 goals and 21 assists. Junior Greg Gibbons has 16 points on seven goals and nine assists and Heyder has a team-high 39 goals with seven assists. Heyder recorded his 100th career point on March 19th. Senior Robert Guglielmo has six goals and four assists and Calabria has 10 goals and 17 assists. Caskenette has 10 goals and four assists and Duchnowski has 11 goals and one assist. Sophomore Ian Votta has six goals and two assists.

·         The defense has been led by Gerdvil who has a team-high 27 caused turnovers with a team-high 55 ground balls. Graduate student Jake Fitzgerald is second on the team with 14 caused turnovers and senior Zack Higgins has five caused turnovers. Junior Tyler Pjatak has nine caused turnovers and two goals and graduate student Jack Kipnes has nine caused turnovers and 27 ground balls. Kuehner is 143-214 (.668) on faceoffs with 43 ground balls, two assists and five goals. Umano is 10-2 in goal with 117 saves, a .552 save percentage and 9.96 goals-against average. He recorded his 400th career save at Mercyhurst on April 1st.

·         Kearnan was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week and Gerdvil was named Defensive Player of the Week on February 20th. Gibbons was tabbed to the Honor Roll for the second straight week on February 20th.

·         Freshman Anthony Barone was tabbed ECC Rookie of the Week on February 13th and Kuehner was named to the USILA Team of the Week on February 14th.

·         Mercy is 1-0 all-time against Adelphi.

·         The Mavericks have secured their eighth straight ECC Tournament berth with their win on Saturday.

·         The Mavericks have won 25 straight games against ECC competition, with their last loss coming in the 2018 ECC Championship Semifinal.

·         The Mavericks are ranked No. 9 nationally in the USILA poll and No. 6 nationally in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine poll. Mercy was ranked No. 2 nationally in the preseason for the first time in program history.

·         Mercy was picked to finish first in the ECC Preseason Poll and Kearnan was named ECC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and Kipnes was tabbed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

·         The Mavericks made their third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament last season and advanced to the National Championship Game for the first time last season. Mercy also won their third straight ECC Regular Season and Tournament Championships last season.

·         Mercy has had 11 straight winning seasons.

·         The Mavericks are 58-8 in their last 66 games dating back to the start of the 2019 season.

·         Kearnan was named to the Inside Lacrosse Player of the Year Watch List on February 10th and Kearnan, Gerdvil, Jack Gibbons, Kipnes and Umano were tabbed USILA Preseason All-Americans on February 1st.

·         Kearnan, Gerdvil, Jack Gibbons, Kipnes, junior Tyler Pjatak and Umano were named Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-Americans on January 27th.

·         Gibbons was named USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Midfielder of the Year and Kearnan, Gerdvil, Kipnes, Umano and Pjatak were tabbed to the Preseason All-American Teams.

Scouting the Panthers

·         Adelphi is coming off a 14-8 win over Franklin Pierce on Saturday.

·         The Panthers were picked first in the NE10 Preseason Poll after going 15-2 last season, winning the NE10 Championship and advancing to the NCAA Quarterfinals.

·         Adelphi is ranked No. 2 nationally in both the USILA and Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine polls.

·         The Panthers are led by Joseph Duchnowski who has a team-high-tying 47 points on 29 goals and 18 assists. Logan Tucker also has a team-high-tying 47 points on a team-high 34 goals with 13 assists. Eamon Hall has 41 points on 20 goals and a team-high 21 assists and Jason Rebaudo has 36 points on 19 goals and 17 assists.

·         Jack Hipchen has 18 goals and 12 assists with 50 ground balls and Kyle Steinbach has 19 goals and eight assists. Brian Harinski has recorded 19 goals and seven assists and Brian Hoerter is 137-239 (.573) on faceoffs with a team-high 79 ground balls.

·         Ryan Butler has a team-high 18 caused turnovers and Dylan Renner is 13-0 in goal with 123 saves, a 6.84 goals-against average and .618 save percentage.
