Scouting the Mavericks
· Mercy is coming off a split with D'Youville on Sunday. The Mavericks were led by senior Sydney Johnston who had a game-high five RBI in game one.
· Freshman Cayla Crawford was named ECC Rookie of the Week for the third straight week on Monday and junior Shannon Sisco was tabbed to the Honor Roll.
· Crawford was named ECC Rookie of the Week and senior Samantha Franck was tabbed to the Honor Roll last Monday.
· Junior Shannon Sisco was named to the ECC Honor Roll on April 3rd.
· Franck was tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll on March 27th.
· Senior Sydney Johnston was named ECC Player of the Week on March 20th.
· Crawford was named ECC Player and Rookie of the Week and Benson was tabbed to the Honor Roll on March 13th.
· Crawford was named ECC Rookie of the Week and Sisco was tabbed to the Honor Roll on February 20th.
· Mercy was picked fourth in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 11-38 last season, qualifying for the ECC Tournament for the second straight season. The Mavericks went 9-15 in ECC play a year ago.
· The Mavericks are 6-4 in their last 10 meetings against Staten Island.
· Mercy has secured their third straight ECC Tournament berth.
· Sisco is hitting .385 with a team-high 36 runs, 12 doubles and 57 hits to go along with seven RBI. She recorded her 100th career hit on April 22nd against Molloy. Senior Hailey Puglia is hitting .232 with 26 hits and three doubles and senior Nicole Smart has 25 hits and 17 RBI. Johnston has a team-high 30 RBI with two home runs, 11 doubles and a .286 average and junior Alexandra Karavias has a home run and four RBI.
· Crawford is hitting a team-best and ECC-best .463 with 18 RBI, four home runs, 50 hits, 30 runs and 14 stolen bases. Franck is hitting .311 with 27 RBI and a team-high six home runs. She recorded her 100th career hit against D'Youville on April 23rd. Seppala is hitting .330 with 13 RBI and 27 runs scored.
· The pitching staff is led by Benson who is 6-11 with a 3.65 ERA in 119 innings with 89 strikeouts. She set a school record for career strikeouts with her 283rd career strikeout at Molloy on March 30th and recorded her 300th career strikeout at Queens on April 13th. Senior Angelina Oquendo is 1-11 with a 5.80 ERA in 70 innings and freshman Marina Provencio is 5-2 in the circle with a 5.56 ERA in 45.1 innings.
· Benson, Sisco and senior Samantha Franck were named Second Team All-ECC last season.
· Mercy is hitting .269 as a team through 42 games and has a 5.06 ERA.
Scouting the Dolphins
· Staten Island is coming off 7-1 and 7-0 losses to STAC on Sunday.
· The Dolphins were picked fifth in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 12-26 last season.
· CSI is led at the plate by Mariah Carcano who is batting .295 with 43 hits, 24 runs and seven RBI. Anissa Acosta has a team-high 30 RBI and five home runs with 15 doubles and 23 runs. Elizabeth Moore is third on the team with 16 RBI and Aileen Balderas has 20 RBI and four home runs.
· The pitching staff is led by one-time ECC Pitcher of the Week freshman Alexandra Frenza who is 5-12 in the circle with a 5.79 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 94.1 innings. Alexis Miramontes is 4-11 in the circle with a 6.03 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 72 innings.
· The Dolphins are hitting .250 as a team and have a 6.10 team ERA.
