WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (May 1, 2023) – Mercy College softball freshman Mackayla Secoda (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Softball Rookie of the Week for Week Nine and senior Nicole Smart (Santa Clarita, Calif./Golden Valley) has been tabbed to the Honor Roll.

Secoda pitched a complete game with no earned runs and six hits allowed with four strikeouts to earn the win over Staten Island on Thursday.

Smart hit a team-best .714 (5-for-7) with two runs, two doubles and an RBI in the Mavericks sweep of Staten Island on Thursday.

The awards are the first earned by both Secoda and Smart this season. Mercy has now earned 16 awards on the year.

Head Coach Jaime Lorenzo and the Mavericks resume action on Wednesday when they play at STAC at 3:30 p.m.
